We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Botelho and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
To live the life you envision will always require immense risk. Nothing is achieved in a comfort zone. As a full-time creative building, a living off your craft is no easy task it’s a daily battle to achieve what I set out to create. I feel as though all creators tend to be their biggest critics and tend to make things harder on themselves in the process, but within that is what builds character. Ultimately everything we do in life or as a career choice poses its risks and rewards! My outlook is tackle it head-on.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started creating in some sort when I was really young with music and writing. I started Photography at 26 and haven’t let up since. I feel what sets me apart from others within my work is the depth of my photos. I like to capture people personally and tell a story through imagery. At first, I would shoot whatever I could to really find my niche and what I’d like to immerse myself in, but now that I have reached that point it’s the creative challenge to continue upon that. When people view my work I hope the takeaway is the passion that fuels it. I put my all into my body of work and continue striving to outdo myself every step of the way.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m from New Bedford a small mid-sized city in southern Massachusetts. The culture here is entrenched with Portuguese, Cape Verdean & various hispanic roots. As far as food I would go to the local mom & pop spots within those cultures that riddle the city and visit the historic downtown area.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my day one AK-Gilly!
Shoutout to my dawg Shaddai!
Shoutout to everyone who inspires me daily to continue creating and doing what I love it’s a blessing
