Meet Julia Wickes | Cocktail Drinker & Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julia Wickes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julia, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
In college, I was the queen of taking pictures of my drinks and posting them to my Snapchat. After a failed attempt of fashion and lifestyle blogging, it all clicked – post drinks on Instagram! I was already doing it for Snapchat so why not make a page out of it and keep going. The name “@juliadrinksagain” started as a joke but it stuck so I ran with it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a legal assistant by day and a food/cocktail influencer by night. I started with my company during the height of COVID-19 as an event coordinator, it was my dream job! While I loved it, I was on a contract covering for someone on maternity leave. When she came back, I transitioned to legal where things aren’t as creative as events. With that, I really looked to my page @juliadrinksagain as a creative outlet. It’s where I thrive the most! I get to go eat and drink with friends while staging beautiful pictures of food and drinks then posting about my experience.
Working essentially two full time jobs, because running an Instagram is way more time consuming that you’d think, is hard. There’s times where I am exhausted from my corporate job and don’t want to go to a foodie event, but then I do and it’s all worth it. I think the biggest challenge is overcoming fatigue. It’s wavering always having to be on your phone posting and engaging but it’s my creative outlet and I love it!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First stop would be Katy Trail Ice House!! It’s the most Dallas, Dallas place you can go. I love showing friends the cheese fries and the HUGE drinks there. Then probably to Las Palmas for happy hour because I love their margaritas! Then Bowen House for a boujee cocktail and ahi tuna tacos – they’re my absolute favorite bite. For going out I’d take them to Lower Greenville for dinner at HG Supply Co on the rooftop so they can see the gorgeous Dallas skyline.
Honestly, I’d take them to all my favorite restaurants! There’s so many it’s hard to name them all…
As for things that don’t involve food, definitely shopping in Highland Park Village! I love all the designer stores and getting to show out of town guests what luxury stores we have here.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Mark Burson. When I was at Ole Miss, I had countless great professors, but Mr. Burson really stuck with me. I remember in my senior capstone project, we had to produce a integrated marketing campaign for the Mississippi Highway Patrol and it wasn’t easy. He described it as a “lift” because information was hard to find and highway patrol wasn’t something easy to get excited about. When my team presented our final presentation, Mr. Burson emailed me and told me how proud he was of my media strategy. That stuck with me because after that I knew I had the skills to go into my career and utilize media strategies for things that aren’t always easy and sometimes a “lift”.
