We had the good fortune of connecting with JoyfulSelah and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JoyfulSelah, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued a creative career because when I tried to do anything else I didn’t feel fulfilled. I wanted to use my creativity and instead of making it a hobby, form it into something sustainable as well. I wanted to enjoy my work and that’s what I am striving for.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, I will be fully transparent. I still have a lot of growth to do as a YouTuber, but I love to learn and grow. I create reviews for activewear items and something I do differently is I like to make the reviews as in-depth as possible. Not a fluff piece of “this item is perfect, you should buy this” but rather showing people the fabric, quality, opaqueness, etc. So that they can make a educated decision if they are interested in that activewear item. No hard sales, no lies, no omitting details. That’s what makes it different.

The hardest part is subscriber count, you only needed 100 subscribers to sign up for adsense and get paid on YouTube previously.. but currently they require over 1,000 which has set me back behind the mark. I know, I know, but it’s what I love to do. So I want to keep working at it.

The lesson? Consistency is key in this business, moreso in how often you post (which is where I could be stronger) but also in your content.

What do I want the world to know? I want them to know that though I am small time now, I am honest. I will tell you what I actually see in activewear, and hopefully this will help you to get out there and explore. Walks, hikes, exploration, meeting a new rep max while weight lifting, all can be made more comfortable and doable by some good activewear that you don’t have to worry about.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
DFW that’s a difficult question, there’s so many great places! Honestly, I do this for friends but I change it depending on the person. Whether they love coffee shops, outdoors, antique shops, cars, everyone is different. But here are some of my favorites.

COFFEE SHOPS
-Kindred (great coffee and best pastry desserts)
-Fire Cup (very unique though a little pricey)
-Black Rifle (military owned)

BUBBLE TEA
-Feng Cha (Specifically been to the one off of Beach Street in North Fort Worth. Great atmosphere, unique seating, and best milk foam.)

RESTAURANTS
-Frezko’s (not Fresco’s Cocina. Frezko’s has a food truck and location. It makes the most amazing nachos with thick homemade style chips and plenty of meat. Would definitely recommend.

-Samwon Garden Restaurant (only authentic Korean restaurant I have found, most are Korean BBQ. If you love Banchan, this is the place. It’s so good!)
-DeVivo Bros. Eatery (Rustic Comfort Food, best noodles, variety, quick service and friendly staff. Truly like nothing else, plus live music on the weekends.)
-Thai Rice n Noodle (amazing curries with multiple choices and I have had people from out of state say it’s the best Pad Thai they have ever tasted)

DESSERTS ONLY
-Las Delicias De Michoacan (Best ice cream shop! Seriously, if you love banana splits, you have to try theirs! They also have Aqua Frescas, popcicles, and other goodies.)

-Del Campo (yummy empanada shop)

PLACES (in general)

Downtown Fort Worth can be a lot of fun and has the Water Gardens, downtown scene and Trinity river venues. It is close to the Stockyards and Botanical Gardens (both gardens in Dallas and Fort Worth are gorgeous). And if you don’t want drive downtown and live North East you can take the Texrail for a couple dollars. It’s clean, fast, efficient, non-sketchy, and on time.

Another great place the Texrail can take you to is downtown Grapevine which has a lot of wonderful things along it’s downtown street. And depending on the holiday or event may have added experiences.

With my friends a hike, walk or mountain biking would also be something they would like. Honestly too many parks to count and it depends if you want them paved or not. But some highlights? Arcadia, Eagle Mountain, Marion Samson Park (biking), Marine Creek, Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge $, Bear Creek…

And many more! There’s so many places I plan to try out, and so much variety!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband has been an amazing support to me during this time. He is the breadwinner so that I am able to pursue this career while being a stay-at-home mom. I wouldn’t be able to do this without him. He’s also encouraging even when it’s difficult to get started in this line of work.
