We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordy Warren and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordy, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk it all. I would not be where I am today if I hadn’t reached for the moon and lived life on the edge. Life is the best teacher, so live while you can.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My journey at The Groovy Coop all started when I created my own position at Back Door Studio (the music studio located in the back of Groovy). I saw a business opportunity within the studio and I promoted myself to Katie Scott (Groovy Owner) and Will Hooper (Back Door Audio Engineer) in January of 2020. The Groovy Coop was hosting a live performance with Bayleigh Cheek (Red Zeppelin Manager & Musician) and Daniel Markham (Friend of Katie’s & Musician) in February, I had a month to prove myself. This was my only job at the time and nothing was promised, so I created promotions and ran with marketing ideas. The show was awesome and the turnout was a huge success, the best one they had had yet! Fast Forward to after Quarantine, Katie decided to open up Red Zeppelin Records & I became the official store manager at The Groovy Coop. There are so many lessons that I have learned and so many more to learn, but I can say with confidence that giving up has never been an option. Life is so weird and you never truly know what will happen, but if you keep your head held high and you do things with purpose you will survive.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well obviously, The Groovy Coop & Red Zeppelin. We would most definitely hit up Kelly’s Art Shack and grab a London Fog at Filtered. A tour of The Historic Downtown McKinney, visiting our local Irish Pub The Celt, The Tea Merchant, Native & Graphite. One of my favorite places is Chestnut Square around the corner from McKinney Square, the atmosphere is amazing and really invites you to enjoy the rich history of McKinney.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My community & my partner, Nick, He is the hardest worker I have ever met and his passion for success is infectious. He taught me how to be kind even when no one was looking and how to believe in myself when I didn’t think I could. Also, I would like to thank Katie Scott for being a friend and mentor that has guided & supported me. This past year has tested all of us and for me the support I received was imperative for my success. Thank You.
