Meet Jordan Lowrance | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Lowrance and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Art is seeing the beauty around us every single day. As a woman, I think art is dancing in your moo moo with your hair all a mess, and singing with a broken voice. I always knew I was creative. I had been drawing, painting, writing stories and making movies my entire life. I loved Halloween makeup and watching something come together. I loved taking pictures and watching someone light up when they saw what I saw. However, as a 29 year old woman, the entirety of my 20’s was spent working construction. I traveled doing pipeline construction with my golden retriever and everything I owned stuffed into my car. I don’t think I ever unpacked a suitcase, because it was only a matter of time until I was onto the next job. I worked 6-7 days a week, 12-16 hour days. I was exhausted, but I made a great living. But that’s just it, I wasn’t living. Maybe it was the development of my frontal lobe, or looking at myself in the mirror and not recognizing a single part of myself, but one day I just had enough. I was burnt out emotionally, physically, and spiritually. I had met hundreds of people, but I felt the most alone that I ever have. When my spirit couldn’t take it anymore, I took the risk, and never went back after a holiday break. I was scared, and I second guessed myself for months. I think my soul was aching for something, but I didn’t know what…. Until I dusted off my camera. I didn’t think twice about it. I offered free sessions, I created my website, I told everyone I knew that I was doing photography, and that was in July. As I sit here in October, I am completely booked for this month. Photography is paying my bills. What?! That sounds crazy to me. Doing something that fuels my soul is also how I make a living. I never thought I would get to say that. I pursued a creative career, simply because I was put on this Earth to create. I was put here to make people feel good about themselves. There is no better feeling than when someone is unsure behind a camera, and as soon as they see their photos, they light up. It brings me joy. I create because it makes me feel full. I would not be where I am today if I didn’t take a risk and pursue art. It was always there, I just needed to let go of everything that didn’t serve me. They always say that the person you are meant to be is on the other side of letting go.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from other photographers is that I accept that we are all different. Everyone has their different styles, technique, education, and work ethic. I think what has worked best for me is viewing everyone as community rather than competition. I like to build relationships, and I am fairly good at it. The majority of my clientele started as people I already had a relationship with, and them telling people they know to book with me. Having a career in photography is a lot of networking, and the ability to create a good experience. I want every single person I work with to leave feeling better than they did when they showed up. I want women to feel beautiful, and I want men to laugh. I chose the name “The Wild Way Photography,” after reading “Women Who Run With Wolves,” by Clarissa Pinkola Estés. I quote her on my website where she says, “ I hope you will go out and let stories, that is life, happen to you, and that you will work with these stories… water them with your blood and tears and your laughter till they bloom, till you yourself burst into bloom.“ Thus quote changed my life. It resonated with me because I had to let life happen to me. I had a rough life, and I worked with it, and baby, did I burst into bloom. I am the happiest I have ever been, and it is because I let life happen.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is perfect, because my best friend lives in Oregon. If she were to visit, I would take her to see some history first. I would take her to where JFK was assassinated and talk about conspiracy theories. After that dark, little walk, I would take her to brunch. I am a mimosa girl, myself, and I really like XOXO for a girly date. After that, we would go to the Farmers Market to check out the good food, and shop. I love museums, so we would do some walking around the Dallas Museum of Art. After we got dinner at The Rustic, we would end the night dancing at Cowboys Red River.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this story to God, my family, and Brendan. I prayed for years for where I am now, I just needed to trust God. My family gave me a reason to stop traveling so much, and Brendan pushed me every step of the way. He loved me enough to allow myself to follow my dreams, and encouraged me no matter what. Thank y’all.
