We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Brodey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, what makes you happy? Why?
Man, there are so many things that bring me joy but, the main things that make me happy are: spending time with my dog, Arya, training Muay Thai/weightlifting and great food. These three things are the focus in my everyday life. I’m a single dog dad haha and fairly busy which means Arya has to spend a good amount of time alone so when I’m home I try very hard to make sure she’s well taken care of. I make sure she gets walked everyday and gets to ride in the car whenever she can come with. It is definitely one of my main focuses everyday is to make sure she’s happy because she is the sweetest dog you could ever ask for. I love training whether it’s Muay Thai, jujitsu or weightlifting/CrossFit; these things constantly challenge me and push me to be better. There’s nothing like completing an extremely challenging workout, that feeling of accomplishment you get is addicting. Great food just speaks to my soul, I become overtaken with happiness when I have great food regardless of what kind it is. I love it all.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I host a podcast called “What’s up Brodey” podcast. A simple way to sum it up is it’s like the Joe Rogan podcast but, for the little guys. I bring on just everyday people who have a story to tell. We are still very new to this but we are growing every week. I think the two biggest challenges for me is constantly putting myself out there, especially as the audience grows, it’s completely out of my comfort zone. Second challenge is being extremely active on social media. I was definitely that person who tried to minimize the amount of time I spent on social media, now that I have to be on there consistently it is a bit of a struggle for me. I have learned to not overthink it and just do, be genuine and people will respect that. The what’s up Brodey podcast is meant to help people, whether it’s providing an alternative perspective to a topic or helping someone become the best possible version of themself or simply providing someone entertainment during the downtime of their day, I want to help.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Austin, Texas is filled with some awesome spots to hangout, get food, drinks or even go hiking. I always take my friends to Hopdoddy’s burger bar on South Congress when they first come here. The burgers are amazing but also a cool experience. South Congress is a great street to walk up and down after eating some great food. Another spot that I like people to experience is River Place Trail in North Austin. Especially, with all the rain it has been so green making it exceptionally pretty right now. Rainey street is always a fun spot to grab drinks and hangout with friends. I always take all my friends, who will let me, to get some great Pho. I love pho, some of the best spots I’ve had in town is Pho Dan & Pho Hoang. There are a ton of places that are on my friend’s and I “Food Spots of Austin” to try so we would definitely hit a spot or two that is on the list!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people in my life that inspire me to be better, who continue to push me each and everyday. There’s a few people who especially deserve a shoutout: one being my parents. They have constantly supported me in whatever it is that I want to do. Whether it’s the podcast or signing up to get punched in the face for fun, they are always there for me. Another person is my co-host Jeffrey Roth, without him the podcast would be extremely hard to pull off because he handles the part that I am absolutely terrible at; the tech side of things, editing the videos etc. Also one last shoutout to my dude Deonte Epps for recommending me to Shout Out DFW and for y’all reaching out to me for this! Thank you.
