We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonny Gallegos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jonny, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Let’s start with the toughest question first! Haha. I’ve been fortunate to watch a lot of my friends succeed in their creative careers. The biggest take away from that is DON’T GIVE UP TOO SOON. Persevere. Not everyone finds success right away; more often than not – it takes a lot of time, help, and hope. It’s something I’ve been learning with my acting career, my band JNNY, and life in general… There’s so many moments to enjoy along the way and we absolutely miss them if all we are focused on is the end goal. So, I think you’ll know if you truly love your pursuit along the way if you can find the joy in the chaos.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Self confidence I think is really important. Talent is neccasary for anything creative you do – but without the right people around you to support/help you believe in yourself… you’ll be going no where fast. Learning to trust my friends to HELP me do the things I dreamed has been the best learning experience. It’s not easy to do anything on a professional level without the help of a team. I feel very fortunate & blessed to have that in my friends/team. If there’s one thing I would want the world to know from my story; is that it’s really OUR story, and you can always dream big… just bring your friends with you. It’s more fun that way always!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I cut my teeth in the Deep Ellum music scene years ago – which is just as chaotic as it sounds. We’d grab coffee at Merit, get some insane food from RUINS (say hi to Chris – the best bartended in DE), and go see some bands at RBC. There’s a lot of cool pubs my friend Charles Reis runs off of Henderson Ave in Dallas: Spider Murphy’s, The Skellig, The Old Monk… a lot of fun and not as crazy as Deep Ellum (lol). The Dallas Museum of Art is a must. The awe and wonder of that space is incredible.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This is my favorite part. Anything I do creatively wouldn’t be possible without the help of so many. In the JNNY music world it started with Kalen Orr & Ben Robertson. We somehow convinced Morgan Ritchie, Ray Rose, Will Herridge, and Eric Knighton along the way. Matt Valtierra & Aimee Edge jumped in when we started getting crazy busy along with Leila Finn helped us coordinate everything with the So What?! Music Fest this past June. That being said… Orlando Mendoza, Mike Ziemer, & all the lovely crew at Thirdstring Productions has been the biggest advocate for Dallas based artist like ourselves. Dream Team.

Creative side & Tv/Film. Alyssa Van Hooser @ The Kim Dawson Agency, Ofelia Habelt @ The Johnson Talent Agency, & Cathryn Sullivan – who has always been my biggest advocate in my life and in my art. Those ladies kick my @$%.
