We had the good fortune of connecting with Joley Mae Gow and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joley Mae, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Being an entrepreneur/actress, taking risks has played a major role in my life.

My mom and I have dreamt of opening a performing arts studio for years, and we finally decided this year to take that leap of faith and make our dreams a reality, because it will never be “a perfect time” to start. It took major sacrifice, and it has been so worth it. We have had 2 musical summer camps, and to see so many kids discover a passion in their hearts for the arts was such a rewarding experience. Kids went from being too afraid to sing with a group day 1, to singing their own individual solos in front of an audience by day 4. Lives are being transformed through the arts, through Chapelhouse Studios, and none of this would have happened without taking the risk!

As an actress, I am taking risks on a daily basis. Acting is vulnerable… and being vulnerable for people to see requires being open to taking risks.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being an actress is not easy, but wow it is so rewarding! Actors get the opportunity to audition, spend hours preparing our material, then pour out everything we have for casting to then judge us. Sometimes we get a “yes” and most of the time a “not at this time.” We celebrate both the “yes” and “no” because they lead us to exactly where we are meant to be. For me, I am willing to take a thousand “no’s” if it will lead me to that one perfect “yes”, because I love the craft so much.

My passion for the arts and for people is why I am so excited to be an acting teacher with Chapelhouse Studios. Being an actor and a teacher is a win win… not only do I get to do what I love, but I get to empower other students to do the same thing. My biggest goal in life is to be a role model and inspiration to many kids and adults. I am so thankful for the opportunities I have to do just that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Let’s plan out our whole day… in the morning we would go to Mary Lou’s for breakfast in Mansfield, TX and I would get a cinnamon latte and blueberry scone! After that, we would walk around painted tree and do some shopping at our favorite vendors. For lunch, we would get smoothie bowls at my FAV place, Mamaka Bowls, in Fort Worth, TX. Next, I would TOTALLY take my bestie to see a musical at Plaza Theatre Company in Cleburne, TX. I absolutely love performing with Plaza, and they produce such high quality musicals. Finally, for dinner we would drive over to BJ’s and split a giant peanut butter pizookie for dessert!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom and I have had so much support through the process of bringing Chapelhouse Studios to life, and our hearts are so full of gratitude. We have support from our church, Movement City Church, our photographer/content creator, Ashlyn Braudaway, The Fort Creative, Ben Davis, Keli Price, Dylan and Larisa Peacock, and our amazing family, especially my dad. We also couldn’t do this without our amazing team of instructors! Thank you to all our family/friends that believed in us since the beginning!

When it comes to my acting career, I am beyond grateful for the mentorship of my acting coach Mary Jo Mazur. She truly cares for my success, answers any questions I throw at her, and helps me be the best actor I can be. She is someone I really look up to.
