We had the good fortune of connecting with John Burgdorf and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi John, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I have exceptionally high standards. Only the best, all the time. This relentless pursuit of perfection has intensified my passion for professional success. The high bar I set for my business has translated into better professional relationships, continual growth, happier clients, and more revenue.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the owner and creator of DFW Scanner. We are a social media based news site in the North Texas area, providing daily content to an audience of around a million residents in the Dallas – Fort Worth metroplex. For ten years, we have completely transformed the way people consume information, primarily as it relates to news and emergencies. I formed Burgdorf Media, LLC (dba ‘DFW Scanner’) to oversee our digital advertising operations, which has grown significantly over the last year. As a millennial living in this age of instant gratification, I fell victim to the idea that my business would have clients knocking at the door on the first day, willing to pay top dollar for my services. The reality was quite the contrary. It takes time – a lot of it – to find your path and chart your course towards success. Be prepared for a lot of late nights and weekends. All of your hard work will pay off!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Dallas – Fort Worth area has so much to offer. My wife and I are always quick to catch a game at some of the sports venues in Arlington (AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Field). We love grabbing dinner beforehand at ‘Texas Live!’ near the stadiums. There’s always the stockyards in Fort Worth for cowtown classics. Or, you can ditch the cowboy hat and enjoy a fine dining experience at some of Dallas’ nicest restaurants (Hillstone is our favorite!). Take a ride to the top of Reunion Tower, overlooking downtown Dallas and much of North Texas. Bring the kids to the Fort Worth Zoo for a fantastic time. So much to do in a week – you won’t be disappointed here in North Texas!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to give a shout out to my college roommates and dear friends Tim, Will, Kendall, and Kevin. We spent many nights discussing our own respective business ideas and plans. This close circle of guys helped me to stay focused on creating real success in my life, both professionally and personally. We are all pursuing our own business interests, from advertising to real estate, and have many bright futures ahead.
