We had the good fortune of connecting with Joel Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joel, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose to pursue a career in music for one simple reason, to share my story. Music has always been a big part of my life, from the time I was a child, all through my teenage years, and even into adulthood. It has been able to make an impact on my life, through the different stories shared by artists. Music is a powerful tool that can take your story from one little neighborhood across the seas and into other countries. That’s why I chose to pursue music.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being in the music field is definitely a tough one and have had many challenges along the way, but even more so as a Christian Hip Hop artist. The story of the Gospel is not one that everyone is open to receiving so I try to share it in a way that people may be open to hearing, by telling my story. I hope that what I have gone through can relate to someone and it resonates with them to pursue their own journey with Christ. I have come to realize that my music is not for everyone and that’s ok because there are people out there that will relate and vibe out to my music.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly only being in DFW for a year I am still exploring the metroplex. But if I had to choose some fun places to visit I would say the Stockyards are a great visit, the six flags parks in Arlington are also fun, and if you are interested in a relaxing time and enjoy a walk visit the botanical gardens in Fort Worth.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I first and foremost want to give thanks to God, who gave me this gift of musical talent and even more for salvation. Honestly, without being christ-centered I’m not sure I would have been this determined to pursue music and use my talents. I also would like to shout out my wife who has been a big support and is always encouraging me to continue to share my story and talents with the world.
