We had the good fortune of connecting with Joe & Jennifer Worrel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joe & Jennifer, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Joe spent two decades building a career in consumer finance, insurance, and automotive sales — all while touring as a professional country musician. When we started a family, we made the decision that Joe would take on the role of primary parent so that our children could be raised at home rather than daycare, which also allowed him to continue performing music. Meanwhile, Jennifer pursued a corporate career in the oil and gas industry, which required multiple relocations over the years.

We’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit, but frequent moves and the demands of corporate life never allowed us to plant deep enough roots to start a business of our own. That changed when we relocated to the Dallas-Fort Worth area for a new opportunity for Jennifer — one that ultimately didn’t work out as planned. Rather than view that as a setback, we saw it as an opportunity. We both agreed: there are far worse places to get “stranded” than DFW!

We realized this was the perfect time to reprioritize what we wanted for our family and for our future. Our children were now old enough that moving again would have been difficult for them — and at the same time, old enough for Joe to return more fully to his professional passions. We saw a chance to finally pursue a business that reflected our values and strengths, and that we could truly be proud to own as a family.

Joe brings decades of experience as a performing musician working in the hospitality and entertainment areas, along with leadership skills from his time in the Air Force as a survival instructor and his work in sales and finance. Jennifer brings a background in marketing, economics, and law, with a career focused on the trading and distribution of transportation fuels and refined products. She also enjoys giving back through community volunteer work and has written freelance pieces on social commentary and adventure travel.

Bringing those experiences together led us to ReCoat Revolution — a franchise business that allows us to serve our community while building something lasting for our family.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Our company, ReCoat Revolution North Metroplex, is just getting started — we officially opened at the end of April.

When we began exploring business opportunities, we were open to a franchise model. Jennifer remains active and engaged in the petroleum industry, so it was important that whatever we pursued provided a proven framework. We wanted something that would allow Joe to run the day-to-day operations with resources and support of an established system.

Our primary objective was to find a business that was both transformative and value-driven — something that solved real problems for people. We weren’t interested in chasing trends or selling things that satisfied temporary wants. We wanted to own a “better mousetrap” — something that provided meaningful solutions and delivered lasting value.

We had the opportunity to become the fourth franchisee in the country and the first in Texas — and we jumped at it. Being early in the franchise’s growth gave us confidence that we would have the opportunity to be in real partnership with the franchisor, and that Joe would be part of shaping the future of the brand. It was a perfect alignment of incentives and values.

ReCoat Revolution is a technology-driven flooring restoration company. We fill a gap in the market between costly traditional refinishing or full floor replacement, and simply living with floors that are past their prime. Our sandless, dustless process, combined with proprietary coatings that dry hard and fast, allows us to dramatically improve the look and durability of hard-surface flooring — all in a single day. We like to call it “a facelift for your floors.”

Our service is a perfect fit for a variety of needs:

–Residential real estate transactions where floors need a quick refresh

–Older but structurally sound floors that have simply lost their luster

–Commercial spaces where downtime for cleaning, repairs and replacement is expensive and disruptive

One thing we’re particularly proud of is how we’ve integrated community giving into our training and early growth. We’ve trained our team by donating floor refinishing services to local non-profits and faith-based organizations. One project we loved was refinishing the floors at the GRACE mentorship housing units in Grapevine. The floors in those units are more than 50 years old and well-loved. Helping refresh those spaces for residents working toward independence was incredibly rewarding. It was also a wonderful hands-on learning opportunity for our team and gave them the confidence they need to serve our customers effectively.

At the heart of everything we do is a desire to serve our community and to help people protect and extend the life of the spaces they value. We’re just getting started — and we’re excited about what’s ahead.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’ve only lived in the DFW area for about two years, so in many ways we’re still exploring like tourists ourselves — and we love that! When friends and family visit, we try to blend a few iconic Texas experiences with some of our own favorite local spots.

A typical visit almost always includes a trip to the Fort Worth Stockyards — it’s such a fun way to soak up the Western spirit of the area. For a special night out, we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary with a personalized dinner at The Monarch in Dallas — an experience we’d highly recommend. And in the fall, you can almost always find us at Dragon Stadium on Friday nights cheering on Carroll Dragon football — Friday night lights are a Texas must-see!

We also love family-friendly attractions like the Fort Worth Zoo, the Sixth Floor Museum, the Dallas World Aquarium, and the Dallas Arboretum. Live theater is a big part of our family life as well — we’ve really enjoyed taking in performances through Broadway Dallas at Fair Park.

When it comes to dining locally, we have a few favorites in Southlake: Feedstore BBQ for casual comfort food, Restaurant Mulino for fresh Italian, Wildwood for very approachable Southern American classics and whiskey forward cocktails, and The Volstead for elevated mixology and a great atmosphere.

Sunday afternoons, you’ll often find Joe relaxing with a cigar at one of the local cigar clubs or at the Grapevine VFW — a true local gem with an eclectic, welcoming crowd.

As Joe is still actively performing, music is a big part of our lives and many of our weekends. He fronts The Big D Band, a 90’s Country band which makes routine appearances at Southern Junction in Royce City, a fantastic Texas roadhouse where you can grill your own steak indoors, dance to live music, and enjoy a true Texas night out.

He also plays bass at some great local venues like The Balcony Club, A Step Up Lounge, The Goat, and Maggie’s R&R. We’d definitely recommend catching live music at one of these spots if you’re visiting — the local talent in DFW is incredible.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We’d like to give a special shoutout to Lisa Hiser Harrington and Artemis Kourosh. Lisa owns her own consultancy, Abiding Strategy, and Artemis is an independent attorney at Kourosh Law PLLC. These two incredible women started a local women’s networking group in Southlake, which became an unexpected catalyst for us.

Jennifer began attending those events simply to make friends and get connected after moving for her corporate job to our new community. Through that group, she met Sara Waskow, a business broker with FranNet who ultimately played a pivotal role in our journey. Sara became the resource we turned to when we decided to look for a business that aligned with our family’s needs and objectives.
