We had the good fortune of connecting with Jodi Krause and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jodi, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Hundreds of thousands of people relocate every year. A large percentage of this population has pets that they would like to bring with them on their journey. We saw how difficult this process was for these families and made it our mission to help alleviate this stress for as many people and their pets as possible. We at Tails in the Air have made it our priority to make the entire move as smooth and painless as possible for every pet and their humans.

From the beginning, clients work directly with myself and my husband to coordinate every detail of the move so there are no surprises along the way. Whether the animal is flying overseas or riding in our specialized cargo van with us within the country, we take care in ensuring the pet is safe, healthy, and happy.

We assist many military families that sometimes are at a loss of how they are going to afford the move and we do our best to help figure that out. PCS’ing is extremely stressful for families. Not only are they planning for their human family but also their furry family. Sometimes it is very short notice that the orders are given to move. That’s ok, Tails In The Air staff have such a large network of trustworthy colleagues all over the world that we are able to create safe plans to make these last minute moves happen.

Sometimes animals are too large to be flown within the United States. We have gone above and beyond to build a custom cargo van that is half living area and half cargo area. During rest stops, pets can get out of their kennels and lounge in our temperature controlled van with us. We take many steps to provide not only comfort but stress-free and safe accommodations for traveling within the US with pets.

A simple way to describe Tails In The Air would be: We treat your furry family the way we treat our furry family as a top priority.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Becoming a Pet Shipper wasn’t anything I had ever dreamed of becoming or actually even heard of. One day, someone had heard that I was a dog trainer and gave me a call to tell me about a pet transport job that she was looking to fill. I had no idea what the job even was or that this job even existed but it was working with pets and I thought I might as well give it a try. I loved it!

I started out a transport agent. This included picking up pets from families and checking them in at the airport to fly to their new home, wherever that may have been. It could have been a ground transport from one end of the US to the other. Wherever animals needed to go to be with their families, I helped get them there. It was an amazing feeling being part of keeping families together.

After a few years of experience, I decided to go on my own and I started Tails In The Air. I now design custom plans to send pets around the world to stay with their families. I have found that in order to be a successful pet relocator, you must be very honest and hardworking. It is important to always think what is the very best for each pet that is being put on a plane or put in our cargo van. Every animal is different. Some are outgoing and love living a carefree life or they could be anxious and unsure of what is happening while they are away from their family. Some are young and some are old. It is our job to make sure that we take every detail into consideration when creating a travel plan. A good example would be if a pet has diabetes and needs insulin enroute to their new home, which may be a long flight. We will purposely add a comfort stop along the way just so the pet can get the medication that is needed to keep them healthy during their journey. Not all shippers think this way which is one thing that sets Tails In The Air apart from other shipping agencies.

Our brand is not to see how many pets we can ship in a year but to ensure that all pets that we ship arrive to their destinations safely. Happy reunions is what it’s all about.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that I would like to recognize for helping with my success but the one person that has mentored, supported, encouraged and believed in me for the past nine years would be Rosemary Filippelli. She is the owner of World Wide Pet Transport in New York and California. Rosemary owns one of the first pet shipping companies that started in 1975. She has helped me be the pet shipper that I am today. Honest and hardworking.
