We had the good fortune of connecting with Jhordynn ShaRelle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jhordynn, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
Yes, I have. As the young people say, “The math wasn’t mathing.” I was losing money and time in my business and not receiving the results I wanted. I quit momentarily, but my dreams wouldn’t leave me alone. I still thought about it all day, was losing sleep thinking about it, and was dreaming about it when I went to sleep. I had to change my mindset. I wasn’t losing money or time; instead, I was investing in myself. My advice is if the thought of it keeps you up at night, keep going. If you’re sleeping just fine without it, give it up.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a ghostwriter, meaning that I write books and other literary works for people. A lot of times, people have an idea for a book/ literary work, but they don’t have the time, know-how, or ability to write it themselves. That is where I come in. I will write the literary work from beginning to end. I am also an editor. If their literary work is already written, I will read it and make the necessary corrections, including correcting typos and adding material to make the literary work flow better. My profession is rare, and that excites me. The market is not oversaturated, and I am not having to fight for a spot. The spot was waiting on me to step in. I am also an author of my own books. When I would have book signings, people would ask me if I wrote books for others. At the time, the answer was a great, big NO! When I became pregnant, I couldn’t travel for book signings as much, and that affected my income. To keep income flowing, I decided to advertise that I would write books for people as a ghostwriter, and it took off from there. It definitely has not been easy. I have had to defend my age, race, and gender every step of the way in my writing journey. I had to gain people’s trust and convince them that a young Black woman was more than capable of bringing their dreams to light and that I could be trusted with their prized possessions. Once I gained their trust, my work and my work ethic spoke for itself. The main lesson that I have learned is “do it scared”. My confidence to write for myself and others never came. I realized that if I waited on confidence, I would never accomplish my goal. I had to just do it, and I had to do it scared. I want the world to know that my company takes your work of art seriously, and we treat it as if it is ours. We keep your work confidential, and we don’t reveal your work until its appointed time. Your work is secure with us.
