We had the good fortune of connecting with Jesus Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jesus, what principle do you value most?
I am all about self-improvement and growing as a person. The word I’d use to describe “self-improvement” is “development.” Development (the process of developing or being developed) is important to me because it allows for me to get better and grow every single day. I think of development as a sort of creation. I get to pick and choose what I desire my outcome to be, and I get to choose how I go about achieving the result. I genuinely believe that I do not take losses in life. “Losses” are just lessons meant to teach me how NOT to do something. If I fail, I believe that it’s not an actual failure. I’m just progressing closer towards my end goal at the end of the day. If there is something I really want, I’d rather try and fail than not try at all. My whole life has just been a series of trials and errors, but that’s life in general. Growth cannot happen in the comfort zone, so I constantly do things that make me a bit uncomfortable to evolve. My belief in personal development allows for me to continue forward, and it is a driving force in everything that I do. I cannot be afraid to try. When something makes me uneasy, it doesn’t trigger nervousness or fear from me, it triggers my adrenaline and it gets me excited. If it doesn’t work out the way that I planned, then it means I must be adaptable and learn the lesson that I was meant to take away from it. I can’t develop if I keep making the same mistake without learning my lesson from my previous “failure” from last time.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art has transformed over the years as I discovered more and more things that I am passionate about. At first, I just put myself into a box and went with “rapper” because I make hip hop music and I tend to rap my verses on my music. But then I realized I write. I act, direct, edit, compile, and market. I make jokes and I create comedic content online. I occasionally model for photos or take photos for others every blue moon when they need me to. Taking myself out of that box, I went for “entertainer” for a little bit, but ultimately, I create. I am a creator. I make things I enjoy. I make art that I enjoy. NoChillSaint allows me to do just that. It’s raw, it’s authentic, it’s unforgiving, it’s just me. I personally believe there is nothing that sets me apart from anyone else except the fact that I am not afraid to put myself out there. I believe that everyone is a creative (in some way), but people are afraid to put themselves out there because of the fear of failure or critique. Art is subjective. What I may enjoy, might not be something that others enjoy, and vice versa. I’m not afraid of people not liking my work. I ask myself every time I make something new: Do you like your work? Do you like what you are creating, or are you doing it just because it’s popular and what other people want? Do you like what you’re putting out there or are you doing it just for money/fame? I‘ve made things that were “trending” to get myself out there, but I always put my own spin on it. What I am most proud of for myself is that even after all these years of creating, I am still making the type of content that makes me happy and I haven’t compromised my beliefs for it. Yes, it is a bit different because I evolved and got better with time, but ultimately, I’m still able to do what I want to do in terms of my creative direction. I’m still not at my end goal, but I am enjoying the journey so far. I branded my business and myself in a way that allows me to be versatile and incorporate all my passions into my daily life. Making things happen is something that has become expected of me because I’ve been doing it for so long. Being able to do what I love makes me happy and brings me a bit closer towards my definition of bliss.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are many places I’d tried to fit into a week, but DFW has so much to do so it’d be impossible to fully enjoy all the city has to offer in just a week. I like to have fun, so we could go to Six Flags in Arlington (maybe Hurricane Harbor if it’s hot enough) or Round One in Grapevine. A good place to go for two people (If you make the reservation well in advance) is Delta Charlie’s Bar and Grill. They will give you dinner and an ariel tour in a plane over Dallas. We’d go to Coyote Drive-In in Fort Worth and catch a movie. I’m also a fan of DFW nightlife because everything is within an hour of each other, so it gives you a lot of variety. I’d take them somewhere in Deep Ellum, such as Federales, Angry Dog or Vidorra. I also like Stirr Addison. I’d take them to 7th Street in Fort Worth and Fry Street in Denton to bar hop (if they were 21 obviously). We could also pop over to The Star District in Frisco for a brunch. It really depends on the time of year that my friend is visiting because there are many events that happen in DFW year-round. We’d have to go to American Airlines Center and catch a Mavericks Game or go to the AT&T stadium and catch a Cowboy’s game. During the fall, we’d have to go to the Texas State Fair and see Big Tex. There are plenty of places to visit and things to do all throughout Dallas-Fort Worth, so it’s hard to give a specific itinerary!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
If I had to choose anyone, then I’d go with my mom. My mom (Shirl Hall) is the strongest person that I know personally. I’ve seen my mom overcome many struggles, challenges, and trials throughout my whole life all while raising two children on her own. She has always found a way to make things happen for our family. Her ambition and her ability to articulate herself is the reason why I had such a great childhood. Me & my mom act very similar in many ways because she instilled all that she had into her children. My mom taught me a lot about self-confidence, being treated fairly/equally, not settling for things just because it is available, etc. I can honestly say that my mom has never lied to me about anything when I have asked her about it. The love, caring, and transparency that she showed me while growing up is a big part of who I am today. My mom has always been there for me and has been my biggest supporter aside from myself. I truly appreciate her and everything that she has done and currently does for me still to this day. Thank you, mom. I love you.
