We had the good fortune of connecting with Jesus Barajas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jesus, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think about risk taking too much, and that’s what the problem is sometimes. When the opportunity comes to take that risk, it may never come again ; so you just have to take it at that moment. I have had my business for seven (7) years now as my second source of income, always having a primary full-time job. It wasn’t until I stopped thinking about the bad outcomes from the risk taking to what could be the freedom to taking any risk, doing my own business full-time now! Yes of course there are times where you do need to sit, and think about risking $1,000 into an investment, or a new business. But if you have that gut feeling to take it, take it!

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is all about safety and health. We specialize in CPR / AED / First Aid classes through the American Heart Association. What sets me apart from everyone else is that I am a small business. I can do a single person class versus a corporate company requiring a minimum. I travel to locations, homes, and restaurants to teach classes. The biggest challenge was being a small company. It is hard trying to do everything yourself from marketing, scheduling, sales, shipping, finances, social media, the actual classes, HR, and anything else that comes with running a business. But the easiest way was to create a business plan, and create a schedule / routine. You are going to fail, but you can never give up!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If they were to come this week, the first thing we would catch is a Mavs game! Pre-game would be at the downtown hooters for food, then to HEROS right outside the arena for some drinks then the game time! I live out in Waxahachie which is a small town, but there is so much to do! This spring it’s like an event every weekend from food trucks, live music and more in our downtown area. It give a small town vibe that I love. Into the city we would visit 6 Flags, a Rangers game and probably any sports game there is! Deep Ellum is a good place to be for the nightlife for some food and drinks as well. I am more of a stay at home person so my going out is very basic. Sorry!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout is going to all my friends and to my family. They are the ones who are always helping get my business out by word of mouth, wearing shirts, re-sharing social media posts and talking about CPR to their colleagues. From past jobs I always had CPR on the side and I even had a job I worked at use my class to train their employees! My group of friends all have their own business’s from construction to owning barber shops, but always find the time to use my safety training, and post flyers around their store to promote my business. THANK YOU ALL!
