Meet Jessica Wood | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Wood and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It’s something I stumbled into. I was a professional photographer for about 10 years before pursing painting full time. It was just a fun side project to pull out every now and then until about 2018. I had a friend over and she commented on one of the pieces I was working on for my house. “Hey can you make me something like this?” That’s when it hit me that other people might like the artwork I create by brush instead of with my camera.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Abstract impressionism best describes my art style. The colors I use depend on the season and my mood. I love painting abstract figures, faces, flowers & just using color to convey my emotional state. I paint for me first. If there are people that also enjoy looking at my artwork, well that’s just a bonus. I find being authentic & honest with yourself and others has been the best practice. It’s hard for me to be any different honestly.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m such an interior design nerd I would have to suggest the design district in Dallas. So many great galleries and locally owed stores. AF Home Interiors has great custom furniture and original artwork.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband definitely deserves recognition. He has supported every decision I have made with my art and makes the space for me to have the time to be able to grow as an artist.
