We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Teal and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was ready to be in control of life, my schedule, and my income. I wanted to become limitless.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business name is HairByJessie. I’ve been a licensed cosmetologist for going on 3 years now. I specialize in natural hair and faux loc extensions. I believe what sets me apart from the next is the fact that I am knowledgeable and I don’t mind educating my clients.I am most proud of my consistency and my ability to retain my clients. My prior work experience in Corporate America definitely helped shape my business mindset and drove me to want to be my own boss. My business started and blossomed during the pandemic. It was hard to gain trust of strangers with so much going on in the world, but I pushed through and proved myself. I have learned that if you truly have a passion for something, go for it. No matter how crazy it might sound, trust yourself and lean on your faith. If you have a calling for something, God will make a way. It took a lot hard work, dedication, and perseverance to get to where I am today. I want people to know that success doesn’t come easy, but it’s worth it in the end.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

-the reunion tower (great views)
-Activate Games (all you can play games)
-ice skate (galleria mall)
-Botanical Garden
-rainbow vomit
-Perot museum
-sweet tooth

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Ogle Hurst is the cosmetology school that I attended. There, I found my love and passion for natural hair. They continuously pushed me to be the best on the days that I would doubt my abilities.
