We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Rich and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, how has your work-life balance changed over time?

I’ve observed my balance change over time, when I would take on more responsibilities in my personal and professional life. The more responsibilities came with less balance.

For years, I strived for work-life balance. There have been different seasons in my life where I felt like I finally got it right and then something would come along and disrupt it.

In 2020, I was intentional about making self-care a priority, choosing myself and implementing healthy boundaries in my personal and professional life. I felt like I finally arrived at what I considered as work-life balance. And then I started my business and got promoted, and once again I experienced a disruption that was outside of my control.

Over the last two years, I realized there is no real balance. There are seasons where it may be 50/50, 30/70, 40/60 and it’s completely outside of your control. Now, my goal and mindset are to achieve work-life harmony.

Work-life harmony for me is about creating an environment that allows me to set boundaries to pour into myself, manage stress, avoid burnout and maintain harmony between my personal and professional life, while experiencing fulfillment in both.

I understand this is a journey and that I have to continue to be intentional about achieving work-life harmony, as there will be seasons where I integrate my personal and professional life better than other seasons.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

As a Self-Wellness Coach, my vision is to create an environment that empowers women to choose themselves first.

As a speaker, my mission is to help organizations create a culture of wellness, where employees feel empowered to focus on their well-being and establish work-life harmony.

I want any reader who is struggling with making themselves a priority or experiencing burnout to know that I have been there before and it’s truly a journey. Give yourself grace. Have self-compassion. Choose Yourself!

I am most proud of being in a place in life where I can define what success and happiness looks like for me, which includes prioritizing myself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came into town, I would take her to listen to live music, have a spa day, enjoy happy hour on a rooftop (The Henry is one of my favorites) and schedule a brunch/dinner with my local friends.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would give a shoutout to both of my therapists who helped me along my self-discovery journey, in realizing who I am authentically, and the boundaries needed that led me to finding work-life harmony.

They were also accountability partners, as it was important for me to do the work outside of our sessions that came with the big WINs.
