We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Pettitt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
You are in charge of your own sense of urgency. When self-employed, it took me too long to learn, that I was applying the corporate or workplace standards for prioritizing tasks, accomplishments, etc. When self employed there will always be many many number one priorities so you have to realize – sooner than later ideally – that you are in charge of what is actually urgent.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I get called a thought leader often and I disagree – my job is to make leaders think. This has kept me in business with no outbound marketing for almost 20 years.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Growing up in Plano, I would go to El Norte Grill. It means a lot when someone would go back to their first jobs let alone eat there!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Too many to name – so I will go with a book. The Art of Possibility.
