We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Henson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I was in high school there were several things that I set as goals to reach. Not really within a time frame, but something to shoot for. In addition to the goals that I had in mind there were some things that were birthed out of life experiences. Currently, my life is made up of ministry and business. Walking through, getting over, overcoming and healing, brought the ministry opportunities. Being Pastor and being Founder and Creator of a Women’s help ministry, “I Luv H.E.R. (Hurt Emotional Recovery) has been fulfilling and life changing. Now becoming owner of my own makeup line, was a dream fulfilled a game changer for me. This was one of the things on my list which started in 2019 and I’m looking forward to more.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am currently Senior Pastor of Deliverance Point Church in Dallas, Creator & Founder of a Women’s Help Ministry/Mentoring organization called I Luv H.E.R. (Hurt Emotional Recovery), and creator of a makeup line called Jdesha Cosmetics. I am most proud of the evolution of who I was into who I am today, and excited to see the next things that will come out of all of this. To say that this journey has been easy would not be a true statement. I’ve experienced challenges and difficulties that should have kept me from any type of success, but my faith in God and determination to never give up has helped me keep it together when it should have all fallen apart. From experiencing childhood traumas consisting of family addictions and bullying, to personal inconsistencies, rock bottom financials and a failed marriage all should have been enough to knock me out of the race of life, but I’ve learned to use the process of Good and Bad working together for my good as fuel to keep going. I want to encourage those reading this to not focus so much on how bad things are but focus on what GOOD can come out of it. Don’t think of your story as an embarrassment but something POWERFUL. Powerful enough to EMPOWER.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Our week would be filled with some of my favorite things. First we would definitely start with a time of worship at Deliverance Point Church, and during the week we would hit places like Moxie’s in Uptown Dallas for good food and atmosphere, hit up the MYX Blend Bar on McKinney to create our own lip color, take a trip to Grand Prairie Area to get a creamy dessert from Andy’s, and then get to Deep Ellum for some Terry Black’s BBQ, and then jam out at the Freeman that’s also in Deep Ellum. Thats just to name a few.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First the honor goes to God for all He has done. Without Him none of what I do would be possible. Next to my spiritual father, Bishop Cardell D. Booker, Sr, for his mentoring and his leadership example. Pushing me passed limits I didn’t know I had and encouraging me to have faith in God and myself to be anything my heart desired. Lastly, the love and support of my family and friends, especially my children Jahleea Boyd and Chloe Boyd which are a part of my motivation to keep going.
