We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Gomez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
There are a few I can think of right off the top of my head. Proper use of chemicals, I feel like when people do their hair at home they “over process” it not knowing how to use the chemicals or formulas. A biggie is “Box Color” how long it lasts in the hair & also the ingredients in them. Some clients think Sally Beauty Supply hair color is the same as the hair colors we use & it is very much different. So I try & educate every single one of my clients when doing their hair. Examples of that is me explaining what im mixing, why im mixing, & the reason why i leave it for the amount of time I do. & in the end they get it because of the beautiful outcome at the end. I love making DFW beautiful 🤩

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is making DFW beautiful & fabulous. Specializing in Balayage, Highlights, & Brazilian Blowouts. I actually had taken a long break working 9-5’s until my mom said to me “you are good at hair jess do what you’re good at” & here I am, doing what I love & getting to work with other fabulous hairstylists. Lessons I have learned along the way is ALWAYS believe in yourself & never give up on your goals. Alteredbeautybyj is my brand & I am just beginning to get my name out there again & I will not stop. 🤍

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Stockyards walk around a little, Downtown Fort Worth to the Water Gardens. Anywhere on Magnolia is so much fun good vibes & live music most of the time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my Mom for always pushing me to utilize my license & never give up. & to all my family & friends who support me. & to the owner of The Studio where I work thank you for letting me apprentice along side of you to perfect my craft even more.
