We had the good fortune of connecting with Jess Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jess, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
I would say besides choosing to start my own business, the single most important decision I have had to make was to not box myself in and to always be confident in my work. Often times in the Art Industry, people think you’re supposed to have one or two styles of work that you are known for. Honestly, I don’t like to think that way. I think of my art as a way of expression, and as the seasons change, as my emotions change, as well as my life, so will my art change. I believe the people that follow my work would appreciate the realness of each technique and work of art I experiment with. There will be times where you figure out that a certain technique isn’t for you and you move forward. But, always move on from the techniques that don’t suit your work with an open mind and the desire to be curious. I believe this forward thinking keeps my art creative, original, and fresh in a sense.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
My art is pretty unique. I believe what sets me apart from others is my ability to be as free as I can be with my creative expression. I go to sleep and wake up with the “weirdest” ideas but also the excitement to experiment and create it no matter how weird it may be. This has truly been one of the reasons people love my art. I don’t like to be put limits on my creative expression. I am most proud of the new clients I have gained here in Texas, and I love how much they appreciate my craft. I got where I am today through a lot of research, trial and error, and prayer. Some of the lessons I have learned on the way are, run a clean and organized business, and make sure to be a sponge when it comes to learning new things. You will never know everything, so keep learning. This has not been easy at all but so worth it. What I would like to world to know about my brand and story is that anything is possible it your first believe that if God gave you a vision he will provide the resources for it to come into fruition. I would also like them to know that with consistency and dedication, literally anything is possible.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
While I am in the city I absolutely love eating at shake shack, I love top golf, and indoor sky diving. I also love visiting the shops and restaurants in Legacy West in Plano!! It’s a one stop shop for everything you need and want. It’s a super great place to hang with friends and family, or even have a day to yourself to just shop and eat. I love it because they have great places to get drinks and meet new people. I have a lot more to explore because I am fairly new to the area, but have truly had an experience so far.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would first like to Thank God! He’s the reason I have the ability to create masterpieces. Secondly my family, friends, and supporters all over. You are the reason my art does well beyond my studio. The encouraging words online, in person at my vendor events, as well as the family and friends who show up to support me when I need it. There have been friends over the years who have spoken life over me and my business, let me borrow their trucks to transport my large art when it would fit in my little Nissan. Family that bought my art just to support me and keep from counting my business as a loss every on my taxes lol. These are the people I dedicate this shoutout to. Without the family, friends, supporters Apaintersthoughts, LLC would not be where it is today. These people have truly motivated me to keep going and keep getting better.
