We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Key and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Selah Creek is a maternity home in Rockwall County that helps women by giving them the time, space, and resources they need to become the mothers they want to be. We not only offer a safe place to stay, but provide a Christian home where they are loved, challenged, and supported in every way.  Once at Selah Creek, each mother begins a program tailored to meet her unique needs and goals. This includes meeting with staff to discuss weekly priorities, participating in daily Bible studies, and reading books related to spiritual and emotional growth. Each mother also advances her education, either by obtaining a GED or pursuing a college degree, and is given the opportunity to take parenting classes. The goal of our program is to prepare mothers for the path they have chosen, whether parenthood or adoption, and to empower them to be confident and live independently.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

Before Selah Creek, I had over 15 years of successful experience in medical sales. As my career progressed, I began to feel a calling towards a different purpose—one that allowed me to use my skills to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others. It was then that I took a leap of faith and transitioned into the role of Executive Director for Selah Creek.

This shift may seem unconventional, but I believe that every step of my professional life has prepared me for this role. I believe the skills I cultivated in sales, such as relationship-building, negotiation, and effective communication, will prove invaluable in leading and managing the operations at Selah Creek.

More importantly, my faith has played a pivotal role in guiding me toward this calling. I attribute my current position to a higher purpose—The Lord’s guidance and preparation. It’s not just a career change; it’s a calling to serve and support women during a crucial and transformative period of their lives.

In my role as Executive Director of Selah Creek, I can merge my professional expertise with a heartfelt commitment to making a positive difference. This journey underscores the belief that our professional paths are not always linear, but they can be intricately woven into a tapestry that aligns with our true calling. I am grateful for the experiences that have led me here, and I am excited to continue making a meaningful impact in the lives of others through my work at Selah Creek.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We love the outdoors, so I would plan a sunset sailboat ride on Lake Ray Hubbard. For local nightlife, we would enjoy Bin 303 or Zanata for dinner with live music in downtown Rockwall afterward. We might catch a sporting event to see the Rangers, Cowboys, or Mavs play, and we would have dinner at one of the amazing Dallas restaurants.  We could visit The Star, Legacy West, and Bishop Arts for shopping and more fun. If our visitors weren’t from Texas, we could go to Fort Worth to enjoy a rodeo and get a pair of cowboy boots and a hat.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The Lord gets all the credit. The founders, Ashley and Kevin Potts, felt a calling to this ministry years ago, and they obediently followed that calling and Selah Creek was born. About a year ago, I began praying that God would show me His will for my life, and I promised that I would be obedient to that calling. A good friend introduced me to Selah Creek, and after a lot of prayer, I knew that this was where I was meant to be.
