We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Edwards and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, what do you attribute your success to?
The success of Savvy is truly because I serve women and families’ financial needs in a way that is true to who I am. I am not competing with other businesses or companies. I stay in my lane optimizing my talents and capabilities to be better and better each day. I also connect with other business owners and leaders who believe in collaboration over competition. Having the freedom in knowing there is enough out here for everyone allows me to work with the clients I can best help and leverage my business partners for those who may need something different.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career and entrepreurship efforts have centered on strategy and coaching. I have maximized my qualities of resilience, optimism, and abundance. To get where I am now, I started as a health professional overseeing grants. As I continued my career and managed a multi-million dollar grants portfolio I realized that I had financial knowledge that I could also use to serve my community. I then became licensed to now help women and families with retirement and estates.
Savvy illuminates immediate planning tools for financial abundance so women and business owners can care for family and access their desired fun, flexible, and funded lifestyle during rewarding retirement years. Along the way, I’ve gotten to be a Grow with Google speaker, a member of the Forbes BLK community, and challenge myself in the Nasdaq Milestones Program. I try my best to sharpen my abilities as often as opportunities arise.
It has been easy in that I’m a third generation financial professional and fourth generation business owner. So I try to share the mindset and consistency that I know comes with owning a business with other business owners as well. It’s just not an area I struggle in because I’ve seen what persistence and resilience look like to craft a meaningful business. I still experience the trials that all business owners do, but I also know that mindset halts progress more often than resources do.
I want the world to know that it’s never too late to dream, to plan, to do better for yourself and your family. It does not require a lot, it does require a decision.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m originally from Ohio, so I love the trees that I can experience when I go to the Heard Museum. I would take my friends on a trail walk a few miles through each trail there. I’ve come across deer and even a snake once, it’s a legitimate nature walk. We’d also pick another day to go to Arbor Hills Nature Preserve, not too far away from where I graduated high school in Plano. I’d also want us to make time to go to IPIC movie theater in Fairview. I’m pretty convinced that DFW has the best dinner movie theaters around. I’d love for us to have a week of laughter, outdoors, wellness, and fun. I’d show them the malls too since they’re pretty incredible, although I’m admittedly more of an online shopper when I need something.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In addition to my family, I am a faith-filled business owner and am grateful to ONE Community Church for cultivating what I often need to thrive as a woman, mother, and business owner. After the sometimes isolating road of being a mom of very young children, I am back to building community and connecting with mothers in the Greater Frisco Chapter of Jack & Jill. We can’t do this journey in life alone.
