We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Daly and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Learning to take risks has been transformational in my life. In my mid to late twenties, I viewed risk as an opportunity to fail rather than fail forward. What I mean by this is every time we take a risk, we’ll grow from it. We may fail but it will take us a step forward if we’re willing to grow through what we go through. Back in 2008, I sat down with a small group of family and close friends and shared with them what I thought was a great business idea and all I heard was silence. They did not see the value or the vision I was trying to communicate. I decided not to take the risk and now years later I’ve learned that not everyone will be on board with your dreams. They are meant for you, but I should have at least tried as I would have learned something either failing or failing forward.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m blessed to work in an area where I get to serve and help others; Human Resources (HR). As the Vice President, HR of a national digital marketing company, I’ve been able to implement policies and enable, not disable employees, and that’s my mission. I believe HR has had a bad stigma for years of being this hiring and firing squad and my goal with any company is that HR is seen as a supportive, executive branch, helping the company with it’s most important asset, its employees. This past year, I was able to implement eight hours of paid time off for employees to volunteer in their community. As a certified goal coach and current National Elite Mrs., I see such value in working together to support our local non-profits. If we support one another, we build a stronger, healthier community.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love that the DFW Metroplex has such a variety of “can’t miss” destinations! If I was showing someone around out of town, we would definitely have a girl’s night out dinner at XOXO in Dallas. The Instagram worthy backgrounds are a can’t-miss! If we were not feeling the nightlife vibe, we’d go to the beautiful city of Celina and enjoy amazing barbeque from Tender. We could sit out on the patio area and play bag toss then shop the square to support local businesses. Last up, if we were feeling the need for adventure, we would head to Bolder Adventure Park in Grand Prairie. We would enjoy rock climbing, archery, zip lines, and more! There is always something to do in DFW!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of my family. My husband, Daniel is a firefighter and has given many days to help me when he could have used his time off to enjoy his hobbies and interests. My daughters, Zoey and Lexi, love me unconditionally and they tell me how amazing they think I am which fuels my fire to go for more. Knowing I am showing them what it looks like to set and soar for goals, keeps me going when the road gets rocky.
