We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenna Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenna, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
When I was first starting out I never said no to a client. I would work through lunch, stay late/come early do whatever was needed. I think that is necessary to some extent when you are building a business. But now that I am a mom and a bit more established I have created boundaries and more balance. I read something recently that said “you have to take time away from your business to grow your business” and it really resinated with me. When you work in your business its really hard to step away and do the other things needed to grow it; like education, social media, working on your brand and self care. I know it may sound funny to mention self care but in the beauty industry you have to practice what you preach! I now block off my books each week for an hour or two and plug back in to what i need to do. By doing that during my set work hours it keeps me from being constantly on my phone or feeling like I have a never ending to do list. It also really helps me to focus on my clients when I am in service with them. I have two small boys and a husband so family time deserves my full focus when I’m not at work.

What should our readers know about your business?
Jenna Thomas Beauty is located inside a salon gallery in Dallas. We offer a wide variety of facials, lash lifts, microneedling, brow shaping/waxing and event makeup. I have been practicing esthetics for over 11 years and it is an ever changing industry. I started out as an esthetician and six years later starting offering wedding / event makeup. We feel makeup and skin goes hand in hand, without good skin the makeup never lays right or you end up having to apply too much. Makeup should only accentuate your natural beauty not completely change your overall look. Our clients leave feeling beautiful and confident, we love that! We’re also thankful we can continue the relationship with so many of our wonderful brides/mothers long after their wedding day. Being able to offer both services allows my business to grow from the relationships I have invested in with these clients. If there’s one thing I want clients to know is they can trust us. We never take the cheap route with education, products or your time. If you are taking the time to have a service performed we want to pamper you to the full extent!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start out with a little exercise either outdoors or at a spin class. Spin is one of my favorite activities, the Beyoncé vs. Drake class at Soul Cycle is such a fun start to the day. Covid gave me a new appreciation for some outdoor trails so we would make a run through White Rock Coffee then head to Prairie Creek Nature Preserve. Lunch at dream café off of Mockingbird is always a fave, their strawberry butter is amazing! Klyde Warren park is great for people watching, bring a picnic blanket and relax. Depending on the weekend and what Dallas has going on we would decide from there. The Bomb Factory normally has a good concert to catch and Delix Culpa is one of my favorite dinner spots!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Having the support of a couple senior Estheticians, friends + family who trust and refer me and my husband has been huge in the success of Jenna Thomas Beauty. I remember completing school and not knowing where to start, a friends mom was a very successful estie and she helped guide me when i was first starting out. The owner of the first spa I worked at Jamie, was always behind me to answer any questions and give me the hands on experience I needed to build my clientele. There’s only so much school can teach you, the rest is getting your hands dirty and she had all the faith in the world in me. I will always be grateful to her. My husband is my number one supporter and the one who gave me the confidence and plan to branch out on my own. If there was any doubt he would quickly diminish it with 100% confidence.
