Meet Jenn Estrada | Tarot Reader, Fiber Artist, Swamp Witch

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenn Estrada and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Two Fox Tarot was born after my old life fell apart.
In the span of 6 months, from August 2019 to March of 2020, I got very sick, had to have surgery, lost my job, sold my home, moved my family in with my parents, separated from my husband whom I had been with for 24 years, and then…Covid struck.
I felt so broken and so lost.
It took some time, and a lot of therapy, but I realized I had an opportunity to take my gifts, things I had hidden from the world for fear of judgment, and turn them into a business.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It’s never easy, explaining what I do. So much of what I practice has to be seen and felt to be understood.
I read Tarot, but not in the way you see people on tv or in movies do it.
When I’m giving someone a reading, the first thing I ask them to do is open themselves up to the messages their ancestors and guides need to deliver, to allow me access to those beings so that they can guide my head, my heart, and my hands to the truth.
I become a channel for them to deliver those messages.
As the cards come out, it’s like looking at one of those picture slide puzzles- I have to look at the cards and arrange them until the answers “appear”.
Depending on how in depth a reading the person is looking for, I may also do a meditation for them prior.
When I meditate with the intention of connecting to other people, I may see disjointed images that don’t make sense to me, I might see and smell things I’ve never seen or smelled before, and sometimes I see people and places as if I’m actually there, even though I have no idea where I am.
All of the information and experinces I have are relayed prior to starting the reading.
I’m also an energy worker and Reiki practitioner, something I’ve deemed “Therapeutic Touch”- I transmute pain, fear, and trauma with my hands.
After being present for the passing of my maternal grandparents, I’ve been especially drawn to end of life care.
It is difficult and exhausting work, but also deeply rewarding, to feel pain and fear leave a person as they transition from this world to the next.
I’m a practicing witch, and have been since 1996, but I spent most of my adult life in the “broom closet”, so to speak.
I didn’t publicly come out until I was 42!
It took a long time, a lot of inner work, and the love and support of good friends and family to feel comfortable talking about or sharing my gifts.
Now I’m able to share my knowledge with others who are just starting out on their paths, offering guidance and advice via my consults.
The goal for my craft is to teach others how to access the magic inside of themselves, to help them realize how powerful and capable they are, all on their own.
I’m still very much in the growing phase of Two Fox Tarot, working on expanding into offering more herbs (which are grown organically at my home) oils, and tinctures.
One of my dreams is to have a “Spell Bar” where people can come in and learn about the properties of different plants and create their own, personalized blends to use in their practices.
I think one of the things that sets me apart from most Spiritual Practitioners is how open I am with my knowledge.
So many people in the Spiritual community want to hold onto their wisdom instead of passing it down.
To be clear, I’m not talking about the gate keeping of closed practices- there are certain things that are only meant for members of those cultures and I have a deep respect for that.
I am a fiber artist as well, and use magic in the pieces I make- imbuing them with incantations and magical numbers.
As you can see, I’m a Witch of all trades!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them outside of the city, to the Paluxy and Brazos rivers near Glen Rose to hunt for fossils and feel the healing powers of the water, to camp under the stars between the limestone cliffs on the ancient seabed.
When we got back into town, I’d take them to my favorite taco place, Tacos La Banqueta, for a pambazo, some tacos al pastor, and a large horchata.
I can be a bit of a homebody, so we’d probably spend a lot of time at home, where I could be the kitchen witch I am and cook all of their favorite meals.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So many people!
My Mom, for encouraging me to embrace my gifts and share them with the world.
Alex Camara for introducing me to people and places that accept me as I am.
Church In The Cliff for being an incredibly supportive, uplifting, and centering spiritual home.
And my Bestie Wives, Jenice Johnson Williams, Blanca Granado, and Lakisha Clark, for holding me up and spurring me forward when my fears of failure felt too overwhelming to overcome.
