We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenifer Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenifer, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I believe that one of the most important aspects about running a creative business is passion. In my case, I focus on staying true to my interests rather than following the trends because my audience can tell whether a product or design was made with a level of dedication that only passion can bring. What makes my art successful is the fact that I know my audience. At events, when they spot certain products, you can see the passion and excitement they have for it and it’s that connection thats helped my business evolve to where it is today. There’s a personal connection built in what may seem like a small transaction to some, but is worth the world to me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Hello! My name is Jenni – the Dallas-based pixel artist behind Pixemancer. We focus on three elements: pixel art, pastels, and nostalgia. Our brand is built on bridging modern anime and asian culture with the nostalgia of 8bit pixel art found in popular video games such as Pokemon and Maplestory. We started back in 2020 amidst the pandemic as a small stationery-based business creating short videos on TikTok, but have evolved since then. Today, we travel the country attending conventions, run an online store, and maintain consignments at several locations across the country! It wasn’t easy getting to where I am today. Between maintaining a full time career and running my own business, I’ve had to learn how to manage my time and take care of myself physically and mentally. Starting a business was the easy part, but maintaining it has been the greatest struggle and achievement I’ve experienced.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My go-to place is K-Town in Carrolton! There are so many food and boba options that I could go there every weekend and still not try them all. I’m a sucker for some soothing Korean soup.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The dallas artist community has been my greatest support. I love how we all support each other. We don’t treat this as a competition, but rather as a support system where we all focus on growth and collaboration.
