We had the good fortune of connecting with Jen Gayden and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jen, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose a creative path because it fills me with joy every single day. Flowers are truly special—they’re there for life’s most meaningful moments, from joyful celebrations like weddings and baby showers to heartfelt tributes honoring loved ones. Creativity has always been essential for me, not just as an outlet, but as a way to connect with others. I’m a true extrovert, so whether I’m designing floral arrangements, capturing weddings and family portraits, or planning community events, the combination of creating and connecting is what lights me up.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a firm believer in the power of genuine connection. At the heart of Vivian James Events is a deep commitment to truly connecting with each client and bringing their unique vision to life. As my business continues to grow, staying grounded in that personal connection—and in serving our local community—remains a top priority.

Giving back is something I deeply value, both through volunteering my time and contributing financially to local schools and charities. I love using my skills to support the DFW area, whether that’s serving on my children’s school PTAs or working alongside Grapevine Colleyville Southlake Moms League to raise funds for impactful organizations like Christ’s Haven and the Stepping Stones Foundation.

Creatively, what sets me apart is my focus on infusing joy into every experience. I’m passionate about creating and capturing life’s most beautiful moments—whether it’s designing a bridal bouquet or photographing a brand-new baby. For me, it’s all about the genuine connections I’ve been fortunate enough to make, and those connections are what make everything I do so meaningful.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Whenever friends and family visit the DFW area, I’m always so excited to show them all the amazing things we have to offer! One of my favorite places to take guests is The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden—it’s absolutely breathtaking. I also love visiting the Fort Worth Botanic Garden, which is just as stunning in its own unique way.

No trip is complete without an adventure to The Stockyards! Two of my favorite spots there are Second Rodeo and The Hotel Drover—both full of charm and character. Sundance Square is another must-see with its beautiful fountains and our iconic sparkly cowboy hat monument that always makes for a fun photo op.

Closer to home, downtown Keller is such a gem. I love taking guests to Hush for sushi, brunching at Seven Mile Café, and shopping with a purpose at Stepping Stones Boutique. For a little pampering, Sole Relax Foot Spa and Cozy Day Spa are perfect for a relaxing afternoon. We often head to Alliance for a delicious meal at Firebirds, Whiskey Cake, or First Watch.

Downtown Grapevine is another favorite for a mix of history, entertainment, and great food. My friend Jennifer Neal runs Grapevine Food Tours, and she curates magical, memorable experiences—from sampling delicious local cuisine to enjoying drone shows and even sabering wine! She’s an incredible resource for anyone wanting to explore the area.

And of course, I always recommend Deep Ellum in Dallas for its vibrant, artsy vibe—murals around every corner make it one of the most Instagrammable spots in the city.

DFW is full of charm, culture, and fun—there’s truly something for everyone!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So many incredible people have supported me throughout the journey of creating Vivian James Events—my family, my friends, and the amazing local community. I’ve always believed in giving back, and one way I do that is through my involvement with GCS Moms League, an inspiring group of women dedicated to raising funds for those in need right here in our area.

This year, we’ve had the privilege of supporting the Stepping Stones Foundation, a phenomenal organization that serves local youth in crisis. They don’t just offer emergency assistance—they provide ongoing support, love, resources, and a sense of dignity that helps these children not only survive but truly thrive. What I admire most about Stepping Stones is their long-term commitment. They walk alongside these kids into adulthood, becoming the support system and family many of them desperately need.

GCSML was honored to host The Great Gala this April, and thanks to the generosity of our community, we reached our goal of raising $100,000! I’m always eager to spread the word about Stepping Stones Foundation, because their impact is absolutely life-changing.
