We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeffrey Gascon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeffrey, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I am inspired by Learning the wisdom accumulated by humanity on this Earth. From studying the motivations of numerous cultures and what drove them to evolve even at high costs, to the development of the human spirit and its attempt to decipher the great mysteries of the universe. How knowledge has changed over time even as some of the questions posed centuries ago are still unresolved, yet there are many others that have been answered. Science continues to explore from the smallest to the largest, from very close to very far, not ever losing a step on its quest to know more.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Having grown learning music in the streets, gave me a great appreciation when the opportunity came to study music formally. When that opportunity led to playing the great symphonic works with numerous orchestras, it created a compositional foundation for structure and harmonious complexity that continues to be inspiring today. Part of that upbringing also included interest in visual components which slowly led to the merging of sound and visual works. Started out as musical theatre writing and later evolved into a vision for merging interdisciplinary elements working together to create art. Currently as a producer in Art Nomadic which is an art company engaging these ideas, I have found on several occasions an avenue for exploring these artistic desires. I created a concept entitled Intimate Space Atmospheres which allows me the freedom to play with element juxtaposition combined in a way that creates balance. The vision for the space created is one of facilitating interaction with the space in a way that feels interconnected and inspiring of deeper reflection. I have used most recently music from my CD titled Parallel Universe to create such space and turned it into a showing which was presented in the Dallas Design District as part of my CD release event. The road here has had numerous ups and downs but all of these combined have served to strengthen character and permitting me to attempt to envision works with depth and meaning utilizing the assistance of experience as an ally.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a best friend came to visit I would take them to the Dallas Museum of Art and would be happy to tell them, that one can enter at no cost which is a unique characteristic of a major Art Museum. Would visit all the exhibits and later head to an Argentinian Restaurant for cocktails and good food. Then will take them to see the Dallas Design District and head for Deep Ellum for some live music. If it were in the Spring, I would also make sure to go the Scarborough Renaissance Faire.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have truly enjoyed a resurgence of my Yoga practice which started a few years back and now forms an integral part of my everyday life. It has opened up an awareness of my body, and how it can be influenced for the better through the drive for flexibility and mind connection. There are great multiple Yoga studio choices in the Dallas area that provide a variety of approaches and wholesome methods. Of particular mention is the Dallas Yoga Center where I had the fortune to complete mindfulness certification training. Every aspect of this overall interest has had a great positive impact in my outlook and motivation to create with purpose and vision
