We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeffrey Ewing and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeffrey, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
I thought of starting my own business when I noticed redness and cracking on my hands. In my line of work, as a flight attendant, I am constantly washing my hands onboard. I looked at the ingredient list of commercially produced soap and couldn’t understand, let alone pronounce, any of them. I knew there had to be a better way, so I started researching and investigating ways to make a better soap product that is more natural, easy on the body, and friendly to pets and the environment.

With all that in mind, I set out – determined – to make a difference. After completing my first batch of soap in 2015, my family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors fell in love with it, thus helping me launch my first small business.

What should our readers know about your business?
Taking my hobby to the next level was the easy part – the hard part, you ask?

It might be the mountain of research that went into designing, curating, and creating a product line that is functional, affordable, sustainable, and that can reach the masses. I like to call it “affordable luxury.”

It wasn’t as easy as it sounds, involving changing raw materials, finding suitable suppliers, and of course, the supply chain challenges the world has faced in the past few years.

Sorting through all that one challenge at a time, I finally got everything sorted and locked in, helping launch JW Soap Company. It’s been a very exigent whirl-wind, but I wouldn’t have changed a thing about it. It’s helped make me who I am today.

I’ve traveled the world as a flight attendant for 25 years, knowing how a smell can carry you back, allowing you to relive moments from years ago. Nostalgia is close to my heart – finding ways to share it has become my passion.

In launching JW Soap Company, I’ve committed to making a journey worldwide through my product line. Whether it’s a virtual trip to the archipelago of Hawai’i or the dunes of Africa – I’ve created the products with the purpose and intent of sharing my experiences with others and helping them relive special moments – invoking a thought or emotion through scent.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
WELL… when I have company visiting town, there are tons of things to do around the city!

From the airport, I’d make a pit stop in Downtown Grapevine. The downtown area is known for its eateries, quaint shops, and farmer’s market. One of my fave stops would be at Farina’s Winery & Cafe. The ambiance is perfect, the food is impressive, and the wine selection isn’t anything to pass up. The Salmon Picatta is one of my top choices; just sayin’.

Back in my neck of the woods, Fort Worth, I’d def have to take a trip down to West 7th Street. The area is one of my favorites in the DFW area… you should def get some tacos at The Velvet Taco – it’s AH MAY ZING, trust me. Check out some live music venues or unique bars that line the area. Free Play is the place for those who enjoy old-school video games. They have nearly 100 classic video games and an all-you-can-play special for about $10. It’ll be a fun night to remember!

When I venture out to the Dallas side of the Metroplex, a stop at Klyde Warren Park is a must! I love the idea that it’s a unique green space that sits atop a significant Dallas highway – so cool. There’s always something happening at the park for all ages – children included. I enjoy the food trucks parked along the park, especially on Movie in the Park nights!

A pop into the Dallas Museum of Art is also on the agenda. The exhibits are unique, and the proximity to Clyde Warren Park makes it a must for me.
.
To round it all out, before heading back to Fort Worth, I’d make an evening out of the Oak Lawn area. Oak Lawn is well known for its nightlife scene and its many friendly and distinct venues, all walkable along Cedar Springs Road.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout would most definitely have to be to my family & close friends. Their love, encouragement, and endless support for me, and my small business, encouraged me to design and curate affordable, clean products that are luxurious-minded for everyday people.
