We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazmine Colson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jazmine, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Direct selling is like any other business. Consistency is a requirement when you’re building a business. Sacrifice comes with success, especially in entrepreneurship.

Run it like a business, it will pay you like one.

Run it like a hobby, you will be unsatisfied.

Though the products come with their own brand, as an independent contractor you still have the freedom to brand yourself. The difference is the community & resources you receive with direct selling versus you wearing all off the hats & create a product alone.

You see, you’re in business for yourself but not by yourself.

The company I chose to direct sell for teaches you discipline, time management, leadership, coaching, marketing, relationship management, networking skills, etc. I would’ve had to pay thousands to get that type of mentorship and knowledge elsewhere.

I’ve blossomed into a true businesswoman by learning the art of following a plan that provides the opportunity to CHOOSE where I strive to be. These skills poured into my success in my professional career & my personal relationships.
Individuals get wrapped up in the brand they are selling & not in the journey that comes with sharing the product, building relationships, and your own brand.
People will be people. There are bad apples & experiences everywhere in the world, especially in a business of any type. Negative experiences spread faster but I’m here to tell you there are more positive stories out there.

I didn’t build my brand on what I was selling, I built it from just being who I am and how I treat those who I cross paths with.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My personality screams “serve others”, when we serve, we look outside of ourselves, beyond our own problems, and seek to bring value to others. Others around me notice my greatness and commend me for my passion for the many projects I constantly commit to but I struggle with how I treat my own dreams and goals. This has been a challenge because I did not realize my own talent or deserving level. I’m in the process of teaching myself to smell my own roses and be patient with myself. I’ve gotten where I am today because I am happy with being ambitious and never content with the present day. Being open to trying new things, being coachable, and always seeking opportunities for growth. I learn to adapt and enjoy a challenge. I overcome challenges by taking new opportunities, failing miserably, and having faith in Jesus Christ for the path he sets out for me. I learned to embrace my talents, even if I felt insecure about having them in the first place and utilizing them in nontraditional ways. Do not question your abilities or opportunities just because you don’t know what to do with them or you haven’t discovered them yet, Matthew 6:8 “Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” Jesus knew what I needed before I did, I just had to make the conscious decision to allow myself to grow with my opportunities.

I’m most proud of making my journey of trial and error into success and development. I finished my last year of college carrying my daughter, juggling leadership roles, working, and preparing for my new life. It was a very eye-opening time for me. I had to break bad habits and stabilize myself in order to prepare for a new chapter in my life; motherhood, and life after college. Motherhood was my push to go get more and challenge myself so that I can provide for her.

I fell in love with sales, philanthropy, marketing, building relationships, women empowerment, mentoring, and entrepreneurship.

I want the world to know that in my journey, I am satisfied with failure if there is a lesson. I have enough bravery to step back from anything that does not serve my purpose to serve others with my gifts. I’ve failed in public and behind closed doors. For a while, I struggled with finding my niche and “fit” so I was known to sort of hop around from “thing to thing”.

I now have a professional background in many industries. Currently, in my full-time career, I work in sales, project management, and marketing. I love to serve people, create, and implement.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I absolutely adore aesthetically pleasing sceneries whether they are inside or outside. I’ll be providing a mixture of my bucket list and what I’ve already experienced! I’ve lived in the Dallas area for almost 3 years but due to the pandemic and new motherhood; my experiences have been brief excursions downtown in Deep Ellum, Uptown, the museum districts, and the outer city areas like Frisco, Plano & Mckinney.

For a week-long trip:
Monday- Welcome Dinner at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse Uptown
Tuesday- Galleria Mall for some shopping
Wednesday- Take our kiddos for fun at Cheeky Monkeys
Thursday- Punchbowl Social
Friday- Drinks on Deep Ellum
Saturday- Brunch at XOXO Dining Room
Sunday- Explore the museum districts

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

My family and friends have supported me in every avenue of my life and career.
Support is important, no matter where it derives from and not many people have it.

I attended the best HBCU in the land, Prairie View A&M University and one of my best friends invited me to join a new women empowerment organization on campus.

“H.E.R. Community”, stands for Women of Honor, Excellence & Rarity. H.E.R. stands on a firm platform of making an esteemed impact on the community, chiefly regarding the advancement of women and teens. As a founding member, I was mentored by the founder, Jazzilyn Simmons. I networked, built relationships, and served on the executive board for fundraising, and events, and graduated as the President. I was able to enhance my skills, develop new ones, find new passions by leading student organizations & serve the community. In return, I was able to learn the art of collaboration, marketing, and networking.
