We had the good fortune of connecting with jaynie schultz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi jaynie, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
When I feel overwhelmed by the pressures of the campaign, I think about what is at risk for this district and city. That makes the stakes too high to ever give up. It’s a human instinct to nurture and protect that which we love. I Must move forward with determination, honesty and integrity.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I became interested in public service when I was in high school and had an internship at City Hall. That fed my interest in the City of Dallas. I studied cities in college and graduate school, earning a M.A. in Urban Studies. Having the opportunity to join the Dallas City Plan Commission in 2014 renewed my passion for our city. I excelled in understanding the bigger picture of challenges in the city and the powerful impact land use has on everyone’s life. I’ve learned that listening carefully is the key to understanding. We put our energies and passion into that which we love, so I encourage people to find something positive to love and put energy into moving that forward.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Day One: My beautiful neighborhood, Hillcrest Forest – Northaven Trail to Cindi’s for breakfast, then walk through the neighborhood seeing Northaven Gardens and the wide variety of architectural styles. Then to Asian Mint for lunch, then walk to Preston Forest to The Woodlands for outdoor cocktails and dinner. Day Two: Tour of downtown. Klyde Warren Park, The Nasher and DMA, City Hall, etc.. find new restaurants along the way.
Day Three: Dallas Farmer’s Market for coffee at Palmieri, lunch from the myriad vendors, hop over to Deep Ellum and grab dinner at Cane Rossa
Day Four: Hike Cedar Ridge Preserve, come home and hang out, go to Luna’s to hear the Dallas jazz Orchestra.
Day Five: Wander Bishop Arts, drive around Oak Cliff and the beautiful area around Mountain Creek Lake, dinner at Whiskey Cake.
Day Six: Eataly at Northpark!
Day Seven: Breakfast at Neuhaus, ride bikes to the Dallas Arboretum, dinner at Rodeo Goat.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The credit for this story goes to the incredible group of friends and supporters who are carrying me through this campaign. They always send good wishes, offers of help, and humor. That helps me remember what is really important in this quest to serve my city.
