We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaylon Rachad and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaylon, why did you pursue a creative career?
I decided to pursue an artistic/ creative career to express myself. There are no bounds to the visions I see and the art that I create. When I am in my element, my craft takes me to new dimensions. The minor details, the major details, and the overall execution are what speak to my soul. I also pursued an artistic/ creative career, because I’ve always felt that my vision and mind were very much more detailed oriented than others. Being detail oriented is a creative art in itself.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a wardrobe stylist. Within this role I wear many hats: creative director, confidant, and confidence builder. What sets me apart from others is that I look at my craft as a full on experience. I am not just going to make you look good, but I am going to make you feel good. You will learn new things about yourself. There where will be times where you will feel uncomfortable, and there will be times where you will be comfortable and ready to take on the world by storm. All of those emotions and moments are what will create the new and improved you.
How did I get here? That is a funny story. Latasha Henderson of Von-Ray Designs, a Shreveport native was actually hosting an fashion/art show in Shreveport, LA. While being there, she was in search of an on-set assistant. My mother got word from one of her good friends, and she insisted that I show up to the meeting. If I am being 110% honest, I did not want to go. But, to make the long story short, while at the meeting, Latasha Henderson pulls me aside and says, “It is something about your spirit that draws me to you. You are going to do great things within the fashion world.” That moment has always stuck with me.
Trust me, it isn’t easy. I am a perfectionist. Being a perfectionist has its pros and its cons. Once I have a vision set in my head, I have to do everything for that vision to come to life. There are still moments when I question my abilities. I have that really bad, but I have to remember that I am made for this. The lessons I have learned within this industry have shaped me professionally and personally. But, I believe the #1 lesson that I have learned is to not compare my journey to others. When it is my time to take the world by storm, it will all happen in divine timing. Just be patient.
One thing that I want the world to know is that I am human. I am the only power source behind my brand. I am sensitive about my work, and I am trying every day that I go. I grow immensely after every opportunity that comes my way.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow! This is a fun question. I would start with Deep Ellum for sure! When I moved here a year ago, that was actually one of the first parts of Dallas, TX that I visited. It is filled with brunch spots, bars, and restaurants. Who doesn’t love day drinking!? I also frequent Klyde Warren Park in Downtown, Dallas. It is so peaceful and refreshing to be able to walk through downtown and not have a worry in the world. As far as other activities or things to do in Dallas, I frequent the different museums here to gain inspiration for my craft. Looking through the different exhibits, color palettes, and just overall aesthetic of these places is very exhilarating.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The most important people that deserve credit in the making of my passion for the arts are the following: GOD, my family, and my mentor, Latasha Henderson of Von-Ray Designs. Without them, I wouldn’t have any idea of how far my talent will/is taking me.
