We had the good fortune of connecting with JayEss and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JayEss, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
Inspiration comes to me in many factors. Conversations, images working in a different daw (digital audio workstation) that I may be accustomed to, or getting new sounds/plug-ins etc. I feel like it’s important to keep your mind open and not to follow the same patterns or routines to allow yourself to take in more things. I feel as if I’m like a plant and use the photosynthesis system, with inspiration being our sunlight and I use it what’s been processed to turn it into something dope!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a Music Producer. I’ve always been inspired and influenced by different sounds and genres. When creating I like to create melodies that you wouldn’t expect to be on this type of beat. I think having an expansive palette helps me to really pull that off. In the music realm I would say that I’m anything but one dimensional. I’ll get too bored with just being in one lane and wouldn’t be inspired at all. My mind moves so fast and I try to keep up with it. It’s definitely taken some years to get to where I’m at now. Lots of learning and failed attempts. Where some people may hang it up after failing so many times, I take that and learn. I think one of the most important things is to listen to what people have to say as far as their feedback but don’t get yourself too wrapped up in their feedback, that it totally alters your sound if that makes any sense. I think it comes a time when you know that you got it and you’re confident in your sound and work!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Most of the time would be spent in Downtown Atlanta Mix’d up burger has great burgers. I actually just tried them recently Have to go to the vortex also (that’s a staple) Noni’s & Fellinis, I love the pasta there and that’s one of my favorite foods. Black bear tavern for bar food and drinks (I go there from time to time) Definitely have to go to Edgewood and little 5 points. It’s so much to do and explore. The atmosphere is great. The Mercedes-Benz stadium with it being opened for a couple of years now.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family and friends first and foremost by sticking with me and showing me great support throughout my journey. My friend Saint, back when I was first interested in making beats showed me how to get my thoughts from my head and down into the digital realm lol (that being the daw). It was fl studio (fruity loops) at the time that we were using. I remember he came over with the boxed copy and installed it to my computer and he basically just showed me how to navigate through the program. My friend Bundy, him and I created a great friendship and relationship through music. We came up together making music and really figured out our sound together which is always an amazing energy! Ascended Breath, we actually grew up together as kids and remain friends to this day and often collab with each other on music. We always have super deep and intellectual conversations and he always gives me tips for health and fitness. IreQ, I met him through Bundy actually. IreQ and I always stayed in contact since. Whether it was through a collaboration or just hitting each other up. The support has always been on 100
