We had the good fortune of connecting with Jay Maymi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jay, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am a product of the NYC adoption system of the late 1960s. I was adopted by wonderful but poor Puerto Rican parents and grew up with meager means in Spanish Harlem during the 70s. By age 13, I knew I had to figure out ways to make money legally if I wanted to have all the cool things the other kids had. I started collecting bottles and cans to trade them in for a nickel. This realization started my journey as an entrepreneur. That experience taught me that anyone could break free from lack if they desire to. I launched a few businesses ranging from tax preparation to fitness training and even became an off-Broadway actor appearing in commercials, movies, and music videos. I have never looked back. Since then, I have always pushed myself to continue developing the next best version of myself while adding more value-based experiences to my life resume. I look back and appreciate growing up where I didn’t rely on what others gave me but instead relied on my creativity, ambition, and desire to alter the course of my destiny. Today, I strive not only to continue to improve my life but the lives of others, as well.
What should our readers know about your business?
The truth is that I have built several businesses that center around improving the life experiences of others. Whether that be in their finances as a Financial Services agency owner, in their sales careers as a noted Sales Psychologist and Trainer, in their wellness and well-being as an awarded Author, or in content creation and influencing for greater mindset and personal development as a Speaker and Radio Talk Show Host, I have always stayed in my recognized and assigned calling. That is the key. Many people, entrepreneurs, and business owners never truly identify and isolate what their gifts and talents are, so they never realize their calling or purpose with any great clarity. This can become a sore spot for stagnation and progress because you lack the genuine fuel to propel your business or career to the next level. I purposed early on in my life never to become a wandering generality. Has that been easy? Nope. Why? Because someone who is an entrepreneurially-minded and driven person assigned to change the world (and make a lot of money) gets excited about opportunities to do so when they’re presented with them. So, the tendency is to hop on those bandwagons. I’ve understood that not every bandwagon is meant for you to hop on. Sometimes, you need to let it roll on and let someone else hop on it. This requires clarity of purpose, discipline, and a solid game plan with an end in sight.
As I continue developing my brand and story, I want the world to know that the goodness Jay Maymi is obsessed with bringing to the world is designed to help them create a better experience, a better existence, a better career, and a better business.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to one of my favorite eateries, Fogo de Chao, and afterward, for some laughs at TK’s Comedy Club in Addison.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out goes to my wife, Ivette Maymi. She is the true superstar of our empire. Another shout-out goes to my brother, Joe Maymi, who has always been supportive and a great source of encouragement and wisdom. A final thank you goes to my dedicated supporters, fans, listeners, and followers.
