We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Rohan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
The phrase “If it’s meant to be, it will be” has never resonated with me. It suggests that life and success are passive experiences left up to fate, when in reality, they’re built through relentless work, discipline, and drive. I believe we all have the ability to shape our futures—we just have to be willing to put in the effort, make bold decisions, and stay committed even when the outcome isn’t guaranteed.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
After graduating from culinary school, I began my journey in the food industry at Lawry’s The Prime Rib. From there, I had the privilege of working for Thomas Keller at Bouchon Beverly Hills, where I was truly molded and developed as a chef. When Bouchon closed, I applied to Gwen, owned by Curtis Stone, and earned my first chef position as Sous Chef. Not long after moving to Dallas, I found my home at Monarch. I started as a line cook to get my foot in the door and worked my way up to Sous Chef, then Chef de Cuisine, and now Executive Chef.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When friends visit from out of town, I love taking them to Maple and Motor for a perfect burger. Other favorites include Mike’s Chicken and Tei Tei for a great dinner experience. For dessert, Botolino has amazing gelato. For a fun experience, we like to visit the Arboretum and NorthPark Center.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A few restaurants around town at which I enjoy dining, in addition to those listed above, are Quarter Acre, The Charles, Neighborhood Services, Nori Handroll, Cane Rosso, Taco y Vino and Cattleack BBQ.
