We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I am personally not comfortable with Risk but in owning your own business or carving out a career path for yourself you have to get comfortable with taking lots of risk. We all love to living in our comfort zones and I am absolutely no exception to that but when I started On The Ground Designs I have to tell myself that every single step of the way was going to be filled with risk and feeling uncomfortable. When I start finding myself in that comfort zone I know immediately I am not growing. This took many years to get use too.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I spent 22 years of my adult life in Corporate America and climbing that traditional ladder until one day I had enough. I could no longer “pretend” to be the person they paid me to be. I was taking photographs on the side as a hobby and saw some moderate success but my real gift is being able to tell stories, it’s been something I have done well my entire life. I also have this unmatched work ethic that is hard to beat. I wrote a rough screenplay for a Documentary and one day my significant other said to me “quite your job and go make that film.” Well after 6 months of trying to determine how to make that happen I started filming my first documentary which ultimately landed on Amazon Prime a little over a year later. That is somethingI am extremely proud of. Wether people enjoy the gritty documentary is of no consequence to me, the most important thing is I did it and it really helped not only jump start my career but gave me the confidence to really start develop my craft which is something I work on every single week.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My family heritage is Italian and I was raised very much that way. I am a very traditional person and love that culture yet I have never traveled to the area of the world. We would jump on a plane to Italy, get settled in an ocean front room in Monopoli Italy, order room service then get ready for a very special dinner. I have always wanted to visit the very famous cliff side restaurant Grotta Palazzese. I think just a week of site seeing and visiting the areas when my grandparents originated from along with the people would be in a once in a lifetime experience.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to say my faith is the most important thing in my life. It’s the moral compass that guides me and keep me on track or better yet, get me back on track when I start to go off the rails which is more common than I like to admit. My significant other Jennifer Litz has been the number one support in my life that has allowed me to chase my dream of making films, commercials and just recently the creation of my own automotive show. I hear people ofter say they are “self made.” I don’t especially like that term because no one is really self made…There is always several people behind a success story.
