We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Taking risks and following my passion has played a huge role in my career. I have had several positions in life that I could have been perfectly content with. Career jobs in the Military, Law Enforcement, or Federal Government where I simply could have cruised to retirement, earned my pension and sailed off in the sunset. But at some point, I willingly walked away from each one of those to seek a higher purpose, that I felt each of them was holding me back from. Institutions like that are purposely built that way. So you don’t think too much or rock the boat. To truly make a difference you can’t be held back by organizational policy, and you must leap when the time is right. While it may be a risk, it is the only way to earn true reward for an entrepreneur’s heart.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I simply got where I am today by a strong work ethic, and not taking no for an answer, or letting it discourage me. It is definitely not easy as a national nonprofit leader. I may hear 100 rejections before I get one yes. To overcome that, I simply refuse to give up. I doubled down on my convictions, and the mission of Project K-9 Hero. I made others believe what I believe, getting them to buy in to the importance of our mission. I have learned that no matter how great your intentions are, there are many people out there who are jealous and will try to destroy you for no reason. You just have to brush that hate off and stay the course. I want everyone to know that no matter where you come from, with enough hard work, you can achieve your biggest dreams, as long as you are willing to work hard enough to earn it!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them for a ride on my property in Tennessee on the side by side. Show them some beautiful mountain view’s, waterfalls, wildlife, the retired K-9 Heroes, and the most beautiful orange sunset.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Project K-9 Hero, definitely does deserve this credit. This organization has given me so much purpose and has changed my life. It is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring the best quality of life for retired Police K-9s and Military Working Dogs by providing medical care, prescription food, and death benefit assistance, as well as rehabilitation and rehoming services, to those who need them. The vision is to honor their unwavering dedication by creating a global environment that celebrates their heroic service. They strive to reshape perceptions, ensuring these valiant animals are revered and respected for their loyalty. Through their efforts, they aim to provide these remarkable companions with the dignified post-service life they rightfully deserve, offering access to comprehensive healthcare and advocating for a quality way of life in recognition of their selfless contributions.
