We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Rana-Lemons and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
In 2014, I left my country (Nepal) with only a backpack to follow my American Dream. I was 23 at that time. Since getting here, “risk” took on a whole new meaning. I took a risk by flying a 19 hour flight and landing in a completely strange and new country. It took me a few years of depression, learning the cultural differences, and scraping by financially. After college, I basically started my life all over again from scratch in this land of “milk and honey.”
I had no option but to make my vision so clear that my fears become irrelevant. I never gave up on my dream, although I did have setbacks. Over the years I grew and purposely lived outside of my comfort zone. It started with working the front desk of a luxury hotel, then trying door-to-door sales, next it involved giving rides to more than 5,000 people in DFW via Uber. Rich, poor, student, business person, blue, white, or no collar, this taught me how to speak to people and lead with confidence and love.
A few books that helped me get over my fears and led to breakthroughs were: The Magic of Thinking Big and Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway. The first taught me the importance of having bigger and better vision/goals in life. The latter taught me that growth is outside the comfort zone. In November, 2018, I joined a local Toastmasters International Club to overcome my last major hurdle, which was public speaking. I went on to hold several office positions in several different clubs.
Currently, I am a Realtor for Keller-Williams, AirBnB Superhost, as well as a relationship and life purpose coach. Taking risks has done nothing but benefited me in so many different ways. It’s a relief to live life without fear. I feel like I can conquer anything in this world.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In 2014, I moved to the states to complete a masters degree, but God had other plans. After more than eight years in professional hospitality, multi-family leasing, and other gigs, I discovered my love, passion, and career in real estate. I’ve always loved people, but you could say nowadays I love property and beautiful homes too!
I got married in December 2020, after a two-year engagement. My husband and I bought our first house the same month and we started hosting short term guests.
With is property we started a vacation rental by owner business as well as bed and breakfast. According to Airbnb, I’m “Super Host” material, since achieving it twice in a row. You could say serving people and helping them find comfort and shelter is in my blood! However, I officially started my residential real estate career in 2022 at the Keller Williams Reality Rockwall office.
I’m a big fan of self-development and you’ll always find me with a book in my hand absorbing as much as I can to grow personally and professionally.
In my spare time, I enjoy participating and leading local Toastmasters Clubs. I speak four languages: Nepali, Hindi, Urdu, and English. God bless Texas!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First, I would take a friend visiting the city straight to the Bishop Arts District, unless it was a Monday when many of the spots are closed. While in Oak Cliff, we might drop by Lockhart Smokehouse, and then for dessert grab some free samples at Dude, Sweet Chocolate, and maybe top it off with a pie a cup of coffee at Emporium Pies. Last we might do some vintage clothing shopping.
Another spot I might take him or her to is one of the M-Line stops. This is the free San Francisco-style trolley that makes it way on a track through Uptown and Downtown. This would kill 45 minutes while getting to know a little about the Uptown restaurants seeing them along the way. This would also give a drive-by glance of West Village, which we may visit later for shopping. While in Uptown we might get some crab legs or peel and eat shrimp at Hook, Line, and Sinker also in Uptown. Last, we might hit up Ascension Coffee in the Design District. As you can see. I love coffee!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to Toastmasters Club International, as well as the authors of The Magic of Thinking Big, Think and Grow Rich, Compound Effect, and Rich Dad Poor Dad. I’d also like to dedicate this article to all my mentors, virtual and face-to-face, and last, but not least and my Nepali and America families.
