We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Gadson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I believe risk is the price you pay for growth. Every major turning point in my life and career came from choosing to bet on myself when the outcome wasn’t guaranteed. I look at risk as an opportunity disguised as uncertainty — and while it can be uncomfortable, it’s often where the real elevation happens.

Taking risks has taught me resilience, adaptability, and trust in my own instincts. From leaving environments that no longer served me to starting businesses from scratch, every risk I’ve taken either worked in my favor or taught me a lesson that sharpened my vision. I’ve learned that comfort zones don’t birth legacies. So when fear shows up, I remind myself that it’s usually standing right next to something worth chasing.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is called Girl Cred — it’s more than just a hair company; it’s a movement. I created Girl Cred for women who take pride in not only how they show up for themselves but how they represent themselves to the world. Our mission is to offer high-quality, reliable wigs with longevity, softness, and minimal shedding — because every woman deserves hair that moves with her, not against her. The name itself stands for “girl cred over street cred” because in a world where clout is currency, I believe your confidence, character, and credibility as a woman matter more.

What sets Girl Cred apart is the genuine connection we build with our customers. I understand the frustration of wasting money on hair that doesn’t hold up, so I made it my mission to deliver quality you can trust. Beyond wigs, Girl Cred also offers vendor lists and digital products to help other women build their brands, because if I can do it, you can too.

As for my personal journey — it hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it. I recently graduated from audio engineering school, which was a full-circle moment for me. I grew up around music; my dad was a drummer, my mom was a singer, and studios were part of my childhood before I even understood the significance. When life took some unexpected turns, and I moved away from home, I made a decision to bet on myself and pursue what truly called me.

While I was in school, I faced a lot of adversity — from financial struggles to homelessness — but I stayed focused and finished with a 3.9 GPA, made the Director’s List, and even became a mentor before graduating. That experience showed me my strength, and now I’m stepping into both the beauty and music industries unapologetically.

The biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way are:
• Nobody is coming to save you; you have to save yourself.
• It’s okay to start over as many times as you need to.
• Closed mouths don’t get fed, but open hearts attract opportunities.

What I want the world to know is that I’m proof you can reinvent yourself and win. Girl Cred is just the beginning. Whether I’m behind the chair, behind a mic, or behind a brand — I’m committed to creating spaces for women to feel seen, heard, and confident in every room they enter.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in Phoenix, there’s honestly so much to do — it’s one of those cities where you can catch a vibe whether you’re looking for upscale, outdoorsy, or laid-back energy. If my best friend was visiting, here’s how we’d do it:

Day 1:
Kick things off with my favorite rooftop bar in Tempe. The views from up there are crazy — you get a full panoramic shot of the whole city, including Phoenix. It’s the perfect place to toast to the trip and watch the sunset.

Day 2:
We’d head to Scottsdale Fashion Square District for shopping, people-watching, and just soaking up the energy. The restaurants and patios around there give a nice mix of luxury and chill, and there’s always something going on.

Day 3:
Take a day to just vibe at my spot. Sometimes the best memories are made just catching up, playing music, and relaxing. Good food, good drinks, and no pressure.

Day 4:
Explore Downtown Phoenix — check out some of the artsy spots, murals, and cute little coffee shops. Hit Pemberton PHX or Cobra Arcade Bar for a fun night out with good drinks and nostalgic games.

Day 5:
We’d hit a hiking trail — probably Camelback Mountain or Papago Park for that sunrise or sunset view. It’s a must while you’re here.

Day 6:
Do a spa day at CIVANA or Joya Spa in Scottsdale. It’s top-tier luxury and the perfect way to unwind.

Day 7:
Wrap it up with brunch at The Montauk or Hash Kitchen (if you know, you know) and maybe one last rooftop moment at Bar Smith or Alibi Tempe before they head out.

Phoenix has its own kind of magic — the people, the energy, and the mix of nature and nightlife makes it one of my favorite places I’ve ever lived.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I want to give honor to God and my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ — because without Him, none of this would be possible. I also want to recognize my big sister, Queen Dawkins, CEO of Project Playbook, for presenting this opportunity to me and for always speaking my name in rooms I wasn’t in yet. Her belief in me has meant so much on this journey.

And lastly, I want to dedicate this shoutout to myself. For every moment I chose to keep going when it would’ve been easier to stop, for doing what needed to be done to get where I am, and for betting on myself even when the odds were unclear. I’m proud of the woman I’m becoming.
