Meet Jasmine Ferrell | Baker and Environmentalist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Ferrell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I’ve learned to balance the time I dedicate to my career, my business, and my personal time with friends and family. Based on the more common societal standards, I previously felt the need to devote any and all free time to my business. I have since learned, after experiencing burnout, that I must also schedule in time to enjoy my life. I now think of balance as making sure I have time to complete all essential tasks, while also incorporating time to hang with friends. While I do feel it is often necessary to prioritize my business and career, I make sure those two things don’t overshadow my ability to live in the present, and enjoy my life currently.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I strive to be sustainable and environmentally friendly from my baking practices to my packaging. That aspect of my business stems from my current career in the environmental sector. With a background in Ecology and Conservation, I currently work in the environmental field protecting natural waterways such as lakes, rivers, streams, and creeks. This involves testing water samples, public outreach and education, and working with businesses and industries on state and federal laws regarding water quality and protection.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were to visit there are two places we would visit for food and fun. I recently discovered Rye on Lower Greenville Avenue and tasted one of the best vegan dishes I’ve ever had. We would also visit Immersive Gamebox in Deep Ellum for a fun day of games.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My close friends group has always been supportive of my business and mission. They’ve made sure to help in any way they can, including helping me bake, running my social media pages, and assisting with pop up markets and events. I am forever grateful to them for their support and patience as my business grows.
