Meet Jasmine Brown | Baker and Human Resource Manager

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
When I first started I had no work life balance. It was all work and no play! Between working a fulltime job and baking almost every day after work I was exhausted. I have started planning my weeks out in advance. I plan instagram post, I give myself set timeframes to bake and clean, and overall I just try to be more organized. I find that giving myself time limits and scheduling things out in advance really frees up a lot of my time so that I can now plan time to do things for myself.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I make cookies, cakes, and other southern style desserts. I think what sets me apart from other bakeries is that I specialize in treats that are usually homemade and not decorated. For example Sock It To Me Cake, Pound Cakes, Honey Bun cakes and more. My main focus is on making my desserts taste like they just came out of your grandma’s oven! I’m still in the early stages of my bakery and so far it has been pretty easy getting here. There have been many challenges along the way but I have mastered the art of “thinking on my feet” and being flexible (both were major components to getting to where i am now). What I would like for everyone to know about my brand is that I started from a young age and my family has been a huge part of helping me with recipes and critique every aspect of Butter Sticks!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Whenever friends come to visit there are a few places in the city I love taking them to! The first stop would be bishop arts. I love the cute photo ops and the delicious restaurants! Dallas also has some amazing museums and I would have to take them to the Sixth Floor Museum and the African American History Museum. My friends and I love to play so places like topgolf, dave and busters, andretti’s, or the backyard would be the perfect play spot for us! I love to be apart of farmers markets and to shop at them as well so of course we would have to make time to go to the Dallas Farmers Market. To end the week off we would go to brunch at The Henry and end it with a shopping at the Galleria Mall.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This shoutout is dedicated to the person who taught me how to make my first dessert, my granny, Gladys Walker. She has shown me nothing but support and love throughout my entire baking journey! Also big shoutout to my friends Courtney, Shabria, and Sandrea! They have been extremely helpful with getting my business off the ground this past year. They offered amazing feedback and brought incredible ideas to the table and I’m so thankful for them!
