We had the good fortune of connecting with Jarrett Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jarrett, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to be able to work for myself and leave something for my kids when I leave this world so they wouldn’t have to work for another person the way I had to.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started out working at QuikTrip, a gas station making $8.25 an hour. I knew that I was always destined for bigger things. I tried college but didn’t care for it but knew I wanted to be able to make more money. I eventually go back to school to get my EMT license then worked on the ambulance for 4 years, which was probably the toughest 4 years of my life professionally, before I transitioned into occupational safety and health. Although it pays me a lot more I still don’t enjoy punching the clock. So I started thinking of ways to get out. I started my clothing line and it was successful it’s first launch but due to life I haven’t been able to get a second launch off the ground. I started barber school as a way to be my own boss and make my own hours while still making good money. So the hope is to have several barber shops with my clothing line in them and also do real estate on the side. I want the world to know to never quit or give up on yourself. Bet on yourself 10/10. Whatever challenges come to you can be overcome even if you think they can’t.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
On the first day I would take them out to Andretti’s. Play some arcade games and go kart racing. Day 2 the grapevine Lake to do kayaking and jet skis. Day 3 I think would be a good day to visit some museums downtown, I love art. Day 4 explore some different restaurants and get out to see the night life. Day 5 a spoken word/poetry lounge to hear live poetry and have drinks.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my dad. He always showed me that anything is possible as long as you stay focused and put your mind to it. You may miss parties, events, hanging out with friends but as long as you are handling business you’ll be okay in the long run.
