Meet Janet Velez | Esthetician and Owner of Le Cera Boutique

We had the good fortune of connecting with Janet Velez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Janet, what do you attribute your success to?
Honestly, there are many different things I attribute my success to but if I have to pick just one then it would be consistency. I have poured so much into my clients and my business that my reputation precedes me. In a world where everyone is obsessed with social media, likes and followers, I’m more old fashioned and have grown my business solely thru word of mouth. I truly care for and am concerned about client interaction and relationships that I feel the consistency in that is what has kept my business going and growing these last 6 years.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Sure, I’ve been an esthetician for 13 years now and have done most of everything that’s under my scope. In that, I have found that my passion is face and body waxing. I love what I do so much that at times I can’t believe it’s what I do for a living. My most popular service is the Brazilian bikini and I believe it’s because after many years I have perfected my craft. Ive learned how to make new and returning clients feel as comfortable as possible during such an intimate service where they are the most vulnerable. Being personable and listening to clients are just a couple of things that set me apart.
Being in business since 2016 has taught me a lot and has most definitely been challenging! The best way to describe it is like a roller coaster of emotions. You have great days where you feel empowered and as if you can conquer anything and then you have bad days where you just want to quit. The beauty in mistakes is that every single one is a learning opportunity although it’s hard to remember in the moment. Having friends that also own a business is what has helped me push through as they always speak words of wisdom, encouragement and love into me.
A few things that have also helped me are my passion and persistence. As I previously mentioned, I love my career so much that it alone has kept me going. It’s tough to own your own business whether big or small and I’m beyond proud of myself for sustaining it this far. One lesson the pandemic taught me was to learn how to take time off and find some work/life balance.. I hope to eventually grow my business one day and with that will come more challenges and lessons learned but as of now I’m proud to be where I’m at.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There’s so many great places in and around Dallas! This would be the itinerary from Sunday- Saturday.
-Sunday- We would go to brunch at The Henry and then head to the Dallas Arboretum.
-Monday- The George Bush Center and/or the 6th Floor Museum at the Dealey Plaza then New York Subs for a late lunch.
-Tuesday- Go to the Perot museum and then go for a walk at Klyde Warren Park and grab a bite to eat from one of the many food trucks.
-Wednesday- We would use this day to kind of relax, maybe go for a bike ride at White Rock Lake and then check out White Rock Brewery for a nice cold beer afterwards.
-Thursday- Obviously we can’t forget the barbecue and dancing!
We would go to Pappas Bar-B-Q then onto Cowboys Red River to end the night.
-Friday- We would spend the afternoon at TopGolf and later in the day enjoy everything that Legacy Hall has to offer.
-Saturday- To start the day we’d hit the Dallas Farmers Market then grab lunch from one of the many market shops. In the evening we would have dinner and drinks at the AT&T Discovery District.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes! I’m so grateful and blessed to say that I have a huge support system. My family, close friends, and most importantly my two daughters; Sophie and Kylie. They are the reason I decided to open my own business in 2016. I so badly wanted and needed a flexible schedule to be able to spend more time with them. Also, I can’t forget my clients! If it wasn’t for their support and referrals I wouldn’t be here today. They are truly my biggest cheerleaders!
