We had the good fortune of connecting with Jameson White and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jameson, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am originally from San Antonio, Texas but moved to Waco, Texas when I was 12 to live with my dad. My dad was a guitar player which was my introduction to that instrument, He had developed a friendship with a few local bands in the area. When I started living with him, he started taking me out to some shows. That became my life. I loved guitar, I loved the aspect of playing live music. My dad and I were big very comparable on anything else but we completed agreed on guitar and rock music. Sadly, a few years later he passed away but he had poured every ounce of skill he could in me and wanted to see me play on a stage one day. I stayed in my room for hours and days on end playing and practicing to grieve in my own way. It was the only thing we connected on. He got that wish when I wrote 5 songs to be played with his friends on a stage at his funeral benefit show. His friends had become so impressed with my skill that they asked me if I wanted to start a band with them. Those musical milestones at such an early age just sealed the deal for me and I knew this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. When I play shows today, I flash back to those days and nights I spent with my dad. It keeps his memory alive and well in me. It’s the only time I feel like we can speak again. It’s as if when I’m up on that stage, I can see him in that crowd cheering me on. It’s that heartbreaking relationship with my dad that I make sure my kids are by my side any time I can have them there. They both love music and love to sing. My oldest has started learning piano and we discovered very early that she has near perfect relative pitch, she can hear notes and match them almost instantly, it’s as if music runs in our blood and I couldn’t be more proud.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I currently work for the company Freight Breakers LLC, we specialize in providing warehouse work needs. Usually a company hires us when they have a job that the ordinary person is not willing to do, for example unloading trailers. In the Texas heat, those trailer become 110° or more and the products are usually heavy so we provide the management team and the staff to get them unloaded in a cost effective and time efficient manner. The company was small but they treated their employees with respect. I was originally hired on as an Unloader and as the business grew, I did with it. I am now the Regional Operations manager for all of Texas. I often promote this job to a lot of my musician friends because you are able to make a full week’s pay in less than 40 hrs. As well as alot if warehouses do not work on the weekends which is perfect for the common musician. The job maybe hard, but it pays well.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My hands down favorite spot in the city is the Rail Club. I have gotten so much time and experience on that stage. Many nights playing some of the most memorable shows of my early musical career. It was the biggest stage I had been on then and still today it’s a decent size. Makes you feel like a rockstar.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout to my wife who has been my rock since we were 15. Without her I wouldn’t have been able to live out even half of my dreams while still trying support ourselves in todays world, She has birthed 3 happy and healthy baby girls who have done nothing but out smiles on our faces anytime they can. She has always been the ying to my yang and she comes from a similar childhood so she can always find away to keep me in reality when my imagination goes too far, without her, I highly doubt the sun would be as bright as it is.
