Meet James Thorne | Chief People Officer

We had the good fortune of connecting with James Thorne and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi James, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I personally look at success for our business a little different than most. The true success of our brand has everything to do with our team and their personal achievement. I originally started this business because of the strong desire I had to build and grow a team and I believe that when you invest in each individual and their families, in return your business will reap the benefits! The world deserves happy and fulfilled teams. We want to create that strong, positive work culture and help our clients be able to do the same. Our business mission reflects this same idea and when you align your team with your message, you become unstoppable.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Something that sets us apart is that we love to inject fun and quirkiness into everything we do (hence our name). I’ve always been a quirky guy so it’s great to have that light heartedness be a part of our team and client relationships.
We are proud of the fact that over anything else, we want to be known for building and growing a strong team. As I said before, we are valuing success in our business based on employee satisfaction and not our revenue and profits. Since my passion and main goal as a company was building a team, it was challenging as a startup to not grow our team too quickly. Most business owners that are just starting out don’t want to have too many people on the payroll and for good reason, but that was our main goal as a business. I was eager to grow and I’m really proud of my current team and our dynamic.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First, I would give my friend Chef Juan a call and see if he could hook us up with some of his incredible food at Magdalena’s! Then, full and happy, the quirky side of me would want to spend the afternoon at the iconic Fort Worth Zoo… it is the #1 zoo in the nation after all! When we’re done feeding the giraffes and riding the train back to the car, we’d wind down at some of my favorite local coffee shops. I love the atmosphere and good conversations over a delicious iced mocha at Avoca or an iced cold latte with moon milk from Summer Moon. …I’m ready for this day! Who wants to go with me?
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When I think about this question, there are truly several people that have always been in my corner and deserve some credit for where I am today. I think of it like a tripod with my family first and foremost, then my team where each individual person has helped me grow in different ways and last but not least, my coaches, Tony Ford and Chris Graebe, who have been incredible supporters and mentors along the way.
