We had the good fortune of connecting with James Merritt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi James, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I don’t think about risks, I just take them. In Tim Grover’s book “Relentless” he speaks about taking risks and how it’s important to “don’t think”. You already know what you have to do, and you know how to do it. What’s stopping you?

If I want to take my business to higher level then it’s important for me to go after what I truly want. Providing a better life for my family & I is important to me and I will stop at nothing to succeed.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Setting yourself apart from others as a real estate agent is what makes you YOU. Being comfortable in your own skin is what will set you apart from those that are trying to be something or someone you aren’t. I didn’t get into real estate for money, I got into this business because I truly love helping others. Being in real estate requires a lot of patience because every transaction comes with different challenges so you have to be prepared and walk your clients through the process because it’s one of the biggest purchases of their life.

Each transaction teaches me a valuable lesson and that’s to always find a solution. Before we begin the process, I tell give my clients 4 words, Don’t Ever Accept Failure. In college I reached one of my lowest points in life becoming homeless. I became a DJ “DJ Deaf” and turned my downfall into a brand and mantra. I knew that what I was saying and building was bigger than me alone. I’ve been very fortunate to work with incredible people and organizations.

Harlem Globetrotters, LSU, NFL, NBA, and music industry. All because I Don’t Ever Accept Failure. This mantra continues to be the backbone to building a successful real estate team which I am now looking new agents that want to join so that we can all succeed and help others around the world. My clients deserve the same treatment the organizations received and they will always get that with me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Deep Ellum is still one of my favorite places to visit in Dallas. When it comes to food, I love to cook so any chance I get to try a new dish I’m in!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s quite a few people who support what I do that I appreciate. My parents who have always encouraged me to turn my dreams into reality, my best friend Raymond Griffin who’s always been transparent with me even if I may not have wanted to hear it at the time. Last but not least my fiancé Yvonne Williams. She holds me accountable, keeps me encouraged when difficult things presents itself, and makes sure we always put GOD FIRST!
