We had the good fortune of connecting with Jalisa Buck and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jalisa, is there something you believe many others might not?
One piece of conventional advice that I disagree with is the belief that you have to remain motivated to succeed. Many people spend a lot of money on materials, events, and resources that “motivate” them to achieve more. Those who think motivation is key to success often believe their success depends on what others can do for them or how they feel at the time. However, we cannot control if or when we are motivated, as motivation comes and goes and usually come from external factors. We’re not always going to be motivated every single day.
The key to succeeding in your life goals is to develop discipline in the necessary areas. Discipline is not something we are born with; it is a skill that must be developed over time and is controllable by the person who possesses it. Even when you’re not feeling motivated, discipline kicks in and reminds you of what is necessary. Motivation is inherently fleeting, fluctuating depending on various factors such as mood, environment, and circumstances. Discipline, on the other hand, is stable and sustainable, built through habits and routines that become ingrained over time.
For example, in my business, there are days when I wake up feeling completely unmotivated. There are times when the excitement that originally fueled my venture just isn’t there. Early on, I realized that relying on motivation alone was not going to sustain my business. Instead, I developed a disciplined approach to my work. I set up daily routines and systems that ensured I made consistent progress, regardless of how I felt each day. This discipline included setting specific goals, maintaining a schedule, and holding myself accountable. Even on days when I didn’t feel like working, my disciplined habits ensured that the necessary tasks were completed. This consistent effort, driven by discipline rather than fleeting motivation, has been crucial in building and sustaining my business. And I’m still not exactly where I want to be with my discipline, but I work daily to further develop it.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our focus is on helping women make that exciting leap into purpose-driven entrepreneurship. What makes us stand out is our holistic approach—we blend personal development, practical business strategies, and spiritual integration to ensure our clients not only succeed in their ventures but also find deep fulfillment along the way. Our key focus in helping our clients is using our V.I.T.A.L.S. framework, which stands for Vitality (Physical Health), Insight (Mental/ Emotional Well-being), Treasury (Finances), Affinity (Relationships/ Community), Learning (Personal/ Professional Growth & Development), and Spiritual (Spiritual Well-being). We offer specialized consulting and strategy, coaching, workshops, and resources tailored for women in the beginning stages of starting or scaling their businesses.
What really gets me excited is seeing the tangible impact we have on our clients’ lives. Witnessing these incredible women gain clarity, confidence, and consistency in their new endeavors is truly fulfilling. It’s like watching a ripple effect of positive change unfold as they go on to empower others through their businesses. Our vision is the the empowerment of women entrepreneurs across the world to create purpose-driven businesses that not only succeed financially but also make a meaningful impact on society and contribute to a more diverse, inclusive, and sustainable world.
We started off as a brand design and strategy firm under the name One Woman Brand Co where we focused on helping businesses create their visual identities and brand narratives. It was a space we were comfortable in, and we were good at what we did. But deep down, I knew there was something missing. We wanted to do more, to make a bigger impact—not just on brands, but on lives. We saw a need—a longing, really—among women who were yearning for something more. They wanted to step into their purpose, to build businesses that aligned with their values and passions. Women who have made progress in their careers while working on someone else’s vision and ready to step into purposeful business ventures. I knew we had the expertise and the passion to help them do just that.
Making that pivot wasn’t easy. It meant stepping out of our comfort zone, redefining our brand, and, perhaps most challengingly, reaching out to a whole new audience. Suddenly, we were no longer just serving small businesses; we were speaking directly to women who were on the verge of a major life change. It was a shift in mindset, in strategy, and in our entire approach to business.
But you know what? Despite the challenges, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Because at the end of the day, I know that what we’re doing truly matters. We’re not just helping women build businesses; we’re helping them find purpose, fulfillment, and true success. And that’s something worth fighting for, every single day.
Through it all, we’ve learned some valuable lessons—like the importance of resilience, the power of community and collaboration, and the need to stay aligned with our values. These experiences have shaped who we are and how we approach our work every day.
So, what do I want the world to know about us? Well, we’re not just another consulting or coaching practice. We’re a movement—passionately dedicated to helping women step into their full potential and create businesses that make a real difference across the globe. Our story is one of perseverance, faith, and a deep commitment to positive change. And we’re just getting started.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Here’s the plan: We’ll kick things off with some mouthwatering Texas barbecue at Pecan Lodge. Then, we’ll explore the city, checking out cool spots like the Dallas Museum of Art and Klyde Warren Park for lunch. We’ll mix things up with nature and culture, hitting up Cedar Ridge Preserve and the Dallas Arboretum. Of course, we can’t forget shopping at NorthPark Center, or ice skating and shopping at Galleria. Plus, we’ll squeeze in some sports action at the AT&T Stadium and maybe even a day at the Dallas Zoo. For a nice night out, we would head to Chocolate Secrets for amazing gourmet chocolates and live Jazz music. After all that fun, we’ll wrap things up with a cozy brunch at Bread Winners Café & Bakery before saying our goodbyes.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I am grateful to God for his guidance and provision on this venture. I would like to shoutout my husband, Jamel, for his continued support on my entrepreneurial journey. I also am grateful for the person who referred my name to this publication for an opportunity to share my story on this platform! Shoutout to the people in my life who believed in me and checked in on me, those who cared enough to give me opportunities that I otherwise would not have had! And last but absolutely not least, thank you to my grandmother Brenda, who taught me to be a God-fearing woman that know no limits! Thank you!
