We had the good fortune of connecting with Jade Onuoha and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jade, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
-Consistency has played a huge role in my success. It is what has allowed me to stay motivated and given me results I would otherwise not have. In order to reach my goals I know I need to show up and put in the work even when it’s hard to. -Constantly surrounding myself with people who are passionate about their craft.
-Not allowing myself to get comfortable and always finding ways to grow.
-Remaining humble.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Hair has been my outlet for being able to express my art. One thing that sets me apart is I see past the money. I care more about the experience my client has while in my chair. I’m looking to create lifelong relationships. It’s common for people to walk into a barbershop and feel uncomfortable and I want to change that. I do my best to give 100% to each client. I’m constantly finding ways to grow and better myself, whether that is watching a youtube video or going to a barber convention. The journey has been anything but easy. I spent a lot of time doubting myself or thinking maybe this industry wasn’t for me. I changed the environment I was working in and started to promote myself more. Doing that helped me find my passion and become more confident in myself. Barbering has taught me patience. Things are constantly changing and you have to learn how to adapt in order to be successful. I want the world to know that I appreciate each and every individual that has given me the opportunity to cut their hair.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would eat at Dot’s Hop house in Deep Ellum. A fun place to drink is Shot Cellar, if you like a surprise. It’s a nice twist on getting a drink. I enjoy going to the Modern Art Museum and seeing the different exhibits they have. When i’m feeling brave I like going to Six Flags. The DC themed rides are a personal favorite. If you’re wanting a Texas feel, definitely hit up the Stockyards.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shoutout to Billy. He took me under his wing in the beginning stages of my career & shared his knowledge of the industry with me. He truly took care of me and treated me like family. I owe my success to him and he has helped me become the barber I am today.

Also a shoutout to my mom, Michele. She’s always believed in my plan on moving to Texas and taking off with my barber career.
